Thanks yes I’ve tried tamoxifen all of the AIs now and Letrozole seems to give me less side effects of them all although my bone pain is excruciating. I’m on Accord and tried to change to another brand (I forgot now will have to check) but my pharmacy said they were too expensive so I couldn’t change. It depends what agreements the pharmacy have with the supplier. The hospital gave me a different brand initially and she looked them up and said they are very expensive! I need to speak to my GP to see if I can get a brand specified on the prescription which some of the ladies on here have done successfully.
I have underlying osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia so that doesn’t help the bone pain. Trying to keep moving as much as possible through the pain and only 7.5 more years of Letrozole
The brand switch has helped some people for sure and is definitely worth a shot . Some people have found some improvement with supplements .
There are real risks associated with taking them which may be why you have to be a certain percentage overweight . Although the positive effects on inflammation have been noted the drugs probably don’t have a license to be used in this way - that may happen eventually but perhaps not soon enough to help you. There may be other treatment available privately which might help if you are looking at the private roufe.
When I was taking Anastrozole I got some benefit from Magnesium and Somatic Yoga xx
Thank you! Lifestyle adaptations have helped but as you can t tell I’m struggling a bit.
Anyway hope you’re doing well and thank you for taking the time to reply.
This is such an amazing forum for honest and trusted advice!!
How are you getting on with Letrozole and one of the slimming pens.
I am mortified by my weight and terrified that it is only increasing my chances of the cancer returning
Hi!
So not much to report only that despite trying even harder with diet and exercise, my weight is creeping up. I have a personal trainer, walk and track my diet. Not sure what more I can do.
I actually have Mounjaro in the fridge but have not started it.
I am thoroughly depressed with my weight and how hard I’m trying and not getting anywhere and you say I’m concerned about the increased risk of cancer coming back with being overweight.
Will I start the weight loss jabs? I’m still on the fence!! Liz O’Riordan has a video on her YouTube channel which was interesting and worth a look.
I wanted to ask has anyone been advised anything about the absorption of their Aromatase inhibitors while on these drugs???

Hi all. Reading this thread with interest, I started taking mounjaro end of May this year (private prescription) and I was diagnosed with ductal and lobular cancer in August.
At the initial diagnosis, I was advised by the surgeon that I could continue taking it and that it would be reviewed at each step (from her point of view, the lower BMI the better). I’m due for surgery at the beginning of December and have started taking Tamoxifen in the meantime. I’ll need radiotherapy but not sure yet on chemo.
I’ll keep updating along the way in case it helps anyone else.
Hi, I see this is an old post and there have been many replies, but thought it may still help someone if I share my current experience.
I was on Mounjaro for about 4 months before my journey began. In fact, it was only the sudden drop in weight that resulted in me feeling the small lump in my breast.
I’ve now seen a series of breast surgeons, plastic surgeons, oncologists and 4 separate teams of anaesthetists - none of whom had any issues with me continuing to take Mounjaro throughout my journey.
However, there can still be a perceived stigma in wider society associated with taking these medications so I was nervousness about sharing the fact I was not only using it, but that I wanted to continue doing so as I’m now (just) have what is considered a healthy BMI. I didn’t encounter any criticism or resistance from any of the professionals I spoke to. One anaesthetist mentioned that they do need to know I was taking it as it slows downs digestion in your stomach so it helps them plan/adapt anti sickness medication they give during the surgery.
I know a few people who were cleared for GLP1 meds after treatment, but the oncologist had to look at hormone sensitivity and current meds first. It really varies by doctor. I’m on a compounded version from Minimal and it has mostly just made appetite quieter. It made it easier to not overeat without feeling like I was dieting. The weight change has been slow, which is probably what most doctors prefer anyway.
I have been using M for the last 4 months after a horrific 2 years on letrozole suffering with lack of sleep due to hot flushes and was crippled with joint pain from the affects of Letrozole
I can only say that after a month it was literally a miracle fir me not only I lose about a stone in weight ( I had gained around 2 stone since been diagnosed with BC and treatment ) but the place to meet you side effect was that the majority of joint pain almost ceased!
I feel like a new woman walking tall, sitting and standing easily, which was a huge issue jumping out of bed rather than slowly unfurling if I had to get out of bed in the night to let the dog out I would literally fall down the stairs as my joints were so stiff ( I am 58)
I have never increased the dose from 2.5 and I’m continuing in fact I feel that I probably will keep going because of the benefits as opposed to any weight loss as I am quite happy with my 2 stone weight loss. I am waiting for some blood test just to check other issues like thyroid cholesterol et cetera are okay and have my 3 am mammogram next week so wish me luck
good luck to anybody who starts I would highly recommend it … at the end of the day excessive weight stores oestrogen and potential hormones to increase risk of hormone/breast cancer. A healthy weight is really important and as we all know on those drugs it’s impossible to maintain a good weight.!
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in Sept. I’m morbidly obese and had actually gained an extra 5kg in a couple of months before being diagnosed. So much for cancer causing weight loss. I eventually got my dr to agree to be starting mj after lots of bloods etc. I know my recurrence risk is high anyway. I don’t smoke and rarely drink so weight is my biggest risk factor. I met the oncologist in January for the first time and was all set for a row about staying on mj but she was fine with it.
I’ve lost 12kg but I’m still in morbidly obese category but getting there and have more energy
I’ve completed quite a few provider’s initial questionnaires and been refused as I’ve ticked ‘active cancer treatment’, or similar.
I’m post diep rec, post chemo, iust about to start radio and tamoxifen. Prolonged steroids due to allergic reaction during chemo helped me to pile on two stones rapidly.
