Paclitaxel and neuropathy

Hi,
I’ve just had my first dense dose of paclitaxel after 4 x EC.
I’m experiencing numb fingertips so my oncologist has paused my second Paclitaxel to see if it improves.
Has anyone else experienced a pause due to neuropathy symptoms? If your symptoms didn’t improve, did your chemo plan change? If so, what to? Did anyone have to stop chemotherapy?

Hi @s30 I was due to have 12 paclitaxel after my 4 EC.
I also suffered from neuropathy in the hands and feet. My oncologist stopped my treatment after 6 sessions, as she felt I’d had enough and didn’t want to risk permanent damage. I have since had surgery and got a complete pathological response. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi, hope you’re coping with chemo. Well done for getting through the EC!

I only developed mild neuropathy towards the end so my plan didn’t change, but a friend had her dose reduced towards the end of treatment because of it. Make sure you mention to your onco at your pre treatment appointment.

Good luck x

I had this after my first dose dense Paclitaxel after dose dense EC. Ask for your dosage to be reduced, thats what they did with me as i was worried it would be permanent. I also bought a compression sleeve (although could only wear on one side due to the cannula on the other) and compression socks and wear these during the treatment. Not sure which worked but it didnt get any worse with the next 3 sessions although it doea last.

On the monthly chemo starters threads, a lot of people talk about using cold socks and gloves ( Suzzipads) for preventing neuropathy. I don’t have personal experience.

Hi
Sorry you are suffering hun :frowning:
I had docetxel and carboplatin and we aimed for 6 cycles (second time breast cancer for me ).Had FEC first time round.
I had dose 3 reduced and 4 reduced then stopped at four as my hands and feet were really bad.I also used the suzi pads but they didn’t seem to help.My oncologist didn’t wasn’t me to have more chemo as she was worried I would have life long issues.
I am now finished chemo and left with significant issues with neuropathy in hands and feet.I am taking morphine and duloextine (nerve blocker) but still trialling what works for me.
Wish you lots of luck and hope it eases for you xx

I also had 4 x dose dense sessions of paclitaxel after 4 x EC. After two cycles I had complete numbness in my feet and tingling in my fingers. Oncologist gave me a break from it and after a few weeks it went away and I managed to complete the course without a reduction in dose. I completed the last paclitaxel at the end of July and the tingling is just about gone again.

Good luck with whatever happens next. Its just the gift that keeps giving. X

Mine was fine for months and then gave way on a turn, which is how I found out the repair had not taken. Has yours ever given way since, or does it feel solid?

Did you need a repair due to chemotherapy @tressabcn3 ?
