Pain 2 years after treatment

Hello?
I had lumpectomy almost 2 years ago. for a stage 2 ER+, her2- . It was followed by 4 months of chemo. And thirty rounds of radiation. My question is I still experience jabs in that breast. I have had m r i’s in follow apps more than the usual because I am so paranoid. My doctors assure me that everything is fine. I would like to know.Is it normal to experience these periods of breast pain.

Firstly, don’t worry about feeling paranoid with every ache and pain. What you have been through is understandable.

I am 5 years in after my mastectomy and although I had other follow up surgery, I still get pain.

It’s good to get checked out as you can’t push aside these worries.

Hope you are keeping well otherwise. x

Hello beyond

Thanks for posting.

Nearly everyone who has been treated for cancer worries about it coming back (recurrence) and you’re not alone in being anxious about this. As @YV4820 says it’s understandable. The uncertainty and fear of breast cancer returning is very real. Adapting to life after treatment can be difficult and often the need for information and support continues.

Some women do have ongoing pain after surgery or radiotherapy for breast cancer. Pains that feel like a jab, stab or shooting are often the nerves in the treated area.

You explain feeling paranoid and it sounds like your team are aware of this. Apart from more regular screening you may benefit from talking therapy, such as counselling, to explore ways of managing these worries and concerns. Do talk to your breast care nurse, treatment team or GP about how you are feeling so they can support you and explore ways to help you with this.
