Hello,
Im one of the january surgery people. I had an snb and wle in december. Last week I had an ANC.
This time i feel so weird< I;ve felt sick, woozy and in pain on the back of my arm. It feels like something is being stretched, I’ve been doing the exercises but very slowly.
I;ve been taking all the tabs they gave me but felt weird on tramadol, last time they gave me codeine, and i didnt like them so i thought tramadol were ok but I think that may be causing the weird feeling…
I wondered how others felt after surgery. With my last op i was fine no movement restrictions just this time I feel rough.
Any advice would be good.
love fran
Hi Fran.
Sorry you feel so lousy after your ANC. I’ve had the same two ops and also felt worse on the second. I didn’t take the Tramadol as it made me feel weird, Iboprofen and Paracetamol worked for me.
Your GP should be able to prescribe alternative analgesia if you need it.
The BCN also said it takes a bit longer to recover from the second anaesthetic.
I think the nerve is sometimes damaged when they do ANC, my affected arm was numb to touch but felt pretty uncomfortable with odd pains and sensations. This cleared up in a few weeks.
So hoping that you feel better soon xxx
Hello back again,
can anyone tell me if this is normal. I feel better pain wise but forgot to mention i feel sick alot of the time, more quesy its a bit like morning sickness. I’ve stopped the tramadol its been 2 days now just taken paras and nurofen…
I just hate feeling sick, I’m a terrible patient lots of huffing and puffing and am so worried about feeling sick when chemo starts.
did anyone else feel like this after an op its been nearly a week now…
Any advice would be good? Plus i dont have an appetite but i’ve had a banana and a cup of tea this morning but just feel rough so had to go back to bed.

Hi Fran,
I had my mx, ANC and reconstruction on 18th and felt sick and no appetite up until this week. I think it’s the anaesthetic getting out if you system and combination of painkillers as well . I am someone who gets a lot of headaches and is sick. But did feel dreadful and hospital food didn’t help! Now suffering from pain from seromas, just getting ready to go to hospital to see about them. Mean’t to be going to thursday clinic but think I will have popped by then and am in agony.
Try and eat small meals and drink plenty and you will gradually feel better. Remember to take neurofen with food. And try and rest.

hello jayne,
yeah i thought it might be the anaesthetic but I was lucky enough to have the op in a private one, through the nhs so the food was brill. I took pictures of it to post on facebook.
My oh is making me some toast this morning I’m trying to eat. plus I’ve stopped smoking, stopped my pill gone off coffee so its a bit like a dettox for me. Which will be good for me in the long run.
Had to go back to bed this morning and OH took kids to school.
Poor you with your seroma hope you feel better soon. I’m supposed to be going to the climic on thursday to check the dressing not looking forward to that one.
I’m just going to enjoy the rest today and tom as my lo is only at nursery 3 days a week. OH is trying to convince me to go for a little walk but i’m not too sure yet. I’ll let you know how i get on.

Well I have been back to LGI, waited 2 hours to see my surgeon, who is lovely, and I have so much faith in him. He aspirated 500mls from my back. I didn’t feel a thing and feel so much better now. I am getting my results on Thursday but he told me all but the sentinal node were clear and I am HER 2 +. I was previously told I was triple negative.
I now am going to read up about this and then can ask the right questions on Thursday.
Hope you are feeling better, just take thing easy. I know it is difficult when you have little ones. My youngest is 12, so quite independent.

Fran I get really bad post op nausea and vomitting… In th pas on tramadol the nurses told me it was that causing the queasy feelings and stopped it so was sore and feeling sick… I know now it’s not the tramadol… I take 1 50mg capsule and if I still feel sore in an hour I can take another one…
Tramadol can cause problems with feeling light headed or sick but I am fine on it but did start to believe the nurses when they said it was that.
I developed a seroma in my chest after my ANC and was very tight and sore until I got it drained to weeks later… I was still queasyt his point and remember my sister having o stop the car on the way to the hospital 3 times so I could puke!
I started to get a lot better after then… So think it can take about two weeks for the anaesthetic to get out your system.
Take care
Lulu xxxx
HI Jayne,
how are you feeling now?
I’m in leeds to at the lgi who is looking after you? They have all been so lovely with me>
I’m supposed to be back there on thursday but had conflicting info from my bcn so I’m waiting for her to call me back. I’ve got an app with the onc on thursday as well so Its all confusing as wasnt supposed to be seeing them for another two weeks or at least until they had the results of my recent op.
Anyway I’m feeling better OH dragged me out for a walk and it did me the world of good, it was freezing but needed the fresh air. In a bit of pain but had an ibru and a para so its not to bad I just hate feeling sick. Its like an all day morning sickness.
Lulu thanks again for getting back to me I’m just no good with drugs so now I’m so terrified about the next step but it has to be done. How are you doing on your regime? you always have such wonderful advice for everyone. I really admire you xx
lots of love
Fran
Ok another question. Afte anc how did your arms feel? Mine feels so tight but its not swollen but feels so tender but yet numb.
Any advice would be good!
Xx
Thanks Fran
My arm isn’t swollen and I had a SNB on both sides before my left ANC so do have some discomfort and swelling of my right hand… I had cording in my right arm which caused a lot of pain on stretching… This is where a vessel is shortened going your boob, armpit, arm and even your hand… I actually had it after my rleft SNB going through my boob and it’s called mondors disease through the boob… But I have had it so much this time … Just a little tightness through the armpit itself but no obvious cording… It looks like the vessel is sunken in your arm.
If it is this you can ask for a referal to he lymphoedema nurse… I don’t think there is any increased incidence of LO if you do have cording though. I found rubbing in brufen gel helped with the pain but nothing really stopped it … It just got better on its own accord but stretching excercises did make it easier… It maybe something else completely but do get it checked.
Hope your feeling better soon.

Hi Fran,
I feel much better since the fluid has gone, though I know it will come back. Surgeon said to go back next Thursday and he will aspirate it again if necessary. He will only aspirate seromas himself. So I think that’s good.
I am very tender at side of boob and arm and do try and do exercises but I do have full movement. I find it helps if hold my boob. And arm.
Going back at 11am tomorrow which means get in at 1pm. Will have all dressings down and see oncologist and know exactly what treatment having now. I had my surgery 18th so it’s 2 weeks for results. How long is it since you went to theatre?
I to feel I have had excellent care from everyone at Leeds.
I am now try ing to get my head round herceptin. It all sounds very complicated.
Lulu, do you know anything about what if means? I was told I was triple negative on biopsies but now it has changed and some of cancer is now HER2 + I do find this and hormone status confusing.
Love & hugs to all,
Jayne
Triple negative is when your pathology is negative to receptors for progesterone, oestrogen and herceptin.
PR and ER are usually measured as a score out of 8… 8 being strongly hormonal… 0 and 2 are negative (there is no 1), 3-5 is ER poor and and 6-8 is strongly positive.
With herceptin… The score is 0,1,2 or 3… 0 and 1 is negative, 3 is positive and 2 can be either so they normally have to do more testing called a fish test… If the result of the fish test is 2.0 or higher it’s considered positive and if under 2.0 it’s considered negative.
It could be that yours was 2 and they maybe expected it to be neg and only after fish testing it turned out to be positive or perhaps it was 2.0 on fish testing meaning it was very borderline.
If the results of the biopsy were negative what you have to remember is that the biopsy is relatively small area they examine where as when they remove the tumour they look at a lot more of it… So one area of the lump may be negative to herceptin and another bit could be positive… They take the highest measurements as the diagnosis.
You will prob need to get your doc to explain your specific results.
Not sure if that has helped at all.
