Hi all,
I’m recovering at home from an MX on my left side with immediate reconstruction (expander implant) which I had on Thursday this week.
I was surprised I was so calm before and during.
Having come home I’m still ok, as in I feel I’m coming to terms with it all but the thing that bothers me is the sheer pain of sitting up in bed and also throughout the day from time to time. It’s like a deep agonising burning sensation underneath my new boob. I’ve got a drain and a kind of vacuum suction bandage underneath as well, I’m assuming the pain could be from these…has anyone had experience of this at all? Is there something I’m perhaps missing, not sure if I should be concerned.
Thanks
Katy x
Hi Katy
I am sorry that you havent recieved a response yet, I feel sure that someone will be along soon. In the meantime you may find it helpful to talk to one of our specialists on our free Helpline, 0808 800 6000.
Alternatively you can post this as a question in the Ask Our Nurse area of the Forum, where one of our nurses will respond to you there.
I hope that your pain is less and that your recovery is going well.
Best wishes

Hi Katy it is possibly from the drain when I had the LD reconstruction I had the same excruciating pain when I sat up or when I was in certain positions. The drain tube is very long and goes in quite deep and it could just be where it is positioned. See how you go you could always ring your breast care nurse or the ward for advice if you are still concerned x
Thank you both.
I think it must be the drain as it is definitly around that area.
I’m in tomorrow to hopefully get it removed now so maybe it will be less painful then!
I had a similar pain after my mx and Implant reconstruction - almost fearful of sitting up at one point, esp in the morning after waking up.
Mine settled after drains were removed, but took quite a few days to settle. My BC nurse said it could be the weight of the implant on the heal g wound, as my scar is under my breasts.
I’m nearly 3 weeks post surgery and pain has really improved - still fairly sensitive in places, but much better.
Hope you are improved, best wishes for your recovery xxx
