Pain and tightness 6 mnths after latest recon op

Hi
Just wondering if anyone has any experience, tips. I am experiencing worsening discomfort, and increasing tightness under my arm, across my breast and down my arm. I have lymphoedema, but that has improved a lot recently, so I think the tightness is soley to do with my most recent surgery 6 months ago.
I had my existing implant removed and replaced with a smaller one (after an infection ). It was done as an emergency procedure, so the main focus was just on trying to save the recon for me, which they did. I have an implant only recon, so I always knew that tightness and encapsulation were likely problems, and have been ok with the levels of discomfort until now-but since then I feel as if things are becoming much more tight, and it is quite painful, especially during the night and early morning. In the past I’ve found pilates and swimming helpful, and saw the hospital physio when I first had mx, but am now finding not much touches it. Maybe I need another course of physio, or maybe I just need to get used to it again, but it is becoming quite tiring. Has anyone else found any other activity or anything else helpful in a similar situation?

Just bumping…

Hi cupoftea

Whilst you are waiting for the other users to reply with their experiences you may find it helpful to give the BCC helpline a call. Here you can talk this through with one of the trained members of staff who will be able to offer you support and information. The lines are open today from 9 to 2pm and Monday to Friday 9 to 5pm, the number to call is freephone 0808 800 6000.

I hope this helps.

Best wishes Sam, Facilitator

Thanks Sam.

One last bump! just in case anyone out there with any experience.

Hi C

I’m sorry that you haven’t had any responses. My situation is a bit different. I had an LD flap reconstruction and expander 4 months ago. I’m still feeling very tight and uncomfortable on my back, under arm and chest. Exercise doesn’t seem to have made much difference to me so far. Like you, it’s worse at night and first thing in the morning. My surgeon tells me I am expecting too much too soon. Did you know BCC have produced an exercise dvd called Getting fitter, feeling stronger. It might be worth you sending off for a copy. I only got my copy yesterday so can’t say how effective the exercises will be but it certainly looks good.

I hope you find something that helps soon.

Jess

Hi cupoftea,

Here’s the link for the new DVD if you’re interested.

Hi
Jo, thanks for the link.

Jess,
Thank-you for your reply. I’ve also realised that I’m doing far more sitting at the computer than I used to, which I don’t think helps. I’m thinking I will ramp up the exercises a bit and probably contact the physio again if that doesn’t do it.
All the best with yours-I hope the exercises do help you too.
