Pain/discomfort in breast after core biopsy

I was diagnosed with bc together with secondary bone mets all in one go just before Christmas, but I think my question may relate more to this part of the forum, at least I hope so!

I had a core biopsy done under local anaesthetic which hurt a bit the folloiwng day or two and bruised quite extensively, then seemed to settle down. That was three weeks ago. For the past couple of days the area around the biopsy ‘cut’ has been really painful, sore to the touch and it hurts to raise my arm. Phoned the bc nurse this morning and she said it wasn’t unheard of and that it could be a haematoma arising from the biopsy. I just wondered if anyone else had suffered this - it’s not total agony but it’s quite uncomfortable.

Am taking Tamoxifen, don’t think this is a side effect of that but you never know!!

Would appreciate any advice

Hi Lesley

I had my core biopsy 3 weeks ago. It was really heavily bruised for a week, but my difference is that I then went in for a lumpectomy on day 8 after the core biopsy. That removes all the bruised area anyway. I know it’s different, but in my 3 week, which is what I’m in now from lumpectomy, I now feel more bruised under the wound than I did in the first week. I think it’s just the healing process. But, big but, if you don’t feel right about it, push to get the bc nurse to look at it. If it’s a haematoma it might not relieve itself without draining and it could get quite sore. Don’t suffer, and don’t worry. Just gently but firmly make them look at it for you.

Thanks Carole - it’s a little bit less painful today so will see how it goes and if there’s any pain still there tomorrow I’ll make an appointment. I think you’re probably right about the healing process though.
