Pain following mammogram

Hi,

I have just had my second annual mammogram. I was expecting it to be painful at the time, but the pain actually got worse when I got home.

I had a seroma and mild lymphoedema in my breast and I am wondering whether the pain is because the mammogram made either of those flare up.

It is almost a week after the mammogram, the pain is getting better, but I tried to do a 10 minute home dance workout today and had to stop as the pain became very intense.

Have you come across this before?

I am doing a bit of lymph massage and using kinesiology tape, both of which help.

Thanks,
Katie

Hi Katie

Thank you for posting your question.

Some people do find that having a mammogram after breast cancer treatment can be painful, especially as you say you have some mild lymphoedema in the breast. Often the pain will get better over time, it sounds like the pain you have is starting to get better, but as you are experiencing pain when exercising we would recommend you contact your breast care nurse or treatment team for further advice.

You can also contact your lymphoedema specialist, if you have been seen in a lymphoedema clinic. They will be able to assess the symptoms you have and advise on the best way to manage the pain until it gets better.
