Pain following single mastectomy

Hi All,

I am just over 4 weeks since my single mastectomy with reconstruction and Sentinal node biopsy.

up until now whilst it’s been a little sore and painful I’ve managed the pain relatively well with ibuprofen or paracetamol and rest.

the last 3-4 days I’ve had the worst shooting and stabbing pains in the breast, node scar and back of my arm. With increased soreness and pulling around the breast scar and generally feeling dreadful, not sleeping. I’m due to go back to work on Monday, I do work in a desk based role, but not sure how I’m going to manage this at the moment.

i guess I’d like to know if anyone else has experienced anything similar, should I be taking something stronger for the pain? Or is this quite normal and I need to ride it out?

Do you have the contact number for your BC nurse ? It may be worth getting checked out just in case you have something going on that needs treating . You get all sorts of weird shooting pains and twinges when your nerves start to heal it’s quite alarming but alway a risk of infection and other post op issues so please get checked . Hope you feel better soon. .
