Has anyone suffered from pain and swelling on the same side as mastectomy but almost on the top rib. I had mastectomy on 8 th November and had 2 few chemo sessions so far. Swelling and pain gets worse about 4 to 5 days after chemo. Had full lymph removal too as had grade 3 tumour… could it just be excessive fluid. Oncologist etc don’t seem too perturbed and just think it’s post surgery pain
any one else suffered this

Hi Helen - I’m not quite the same as you as I had chemo first then right mx and full lymph removal in September. I finished rads on 19 Dec and since then I do get pain exactly as you describe - especially at night if I lay on that side. J x
Hi Helen, I didn’t have full lymph removal but my mastectomy scar & under my arm does feel uncomfortable for about a week a few days after each chemo. I’m not sure about being swollen. Maybe ask your BCN? Xx
I also had mastectomy full aux clearance on my left side before my chemo and I always find my scar and my left side are sore after chemo. My onc and breast surgeon have both told Me this is due to chemo it makes body and nerves more sensitive. X
Hi there had full mastectomy and full axillary clearance November too. I also get increased pain sensitivity on scar and general tightness following chemo cycles. I put it down to the fact chemo destroys cells good or bad and new scar tissue is vulnerable.the colour also changes from pink and healthy to darker at site temporarily. I just keep using my bio oil to massage the scar and usually picks up again week 2 and looks healthy again. But definitely think it’s related to chemo and should therefore improve once finished x it’s a long job I know you begin to wander when it will all settle down x

i get get exactly the same - swell up and nerve pain just after chemo but it settles by the time I see my Onc a week before the next round. My breast care nurse seems to think it’s normal but it’s uncomfortable in addition to the other chemo side effects.
