Painful breast lump - told it's fibroadenoma but could it be something else?

Hello all.

My first post here so please bear with me.

I’m 39 years old, and found a lump in my left breast last August. I went to my GP who gave me an urgent referral to the Breast Clinic at the local hospital.

The lump is smooth, but is attached to my breast tissue - it doesn’t move under palpation which I understand is not usual for a fibroadenoma.

When the consultant examined me she said it didn’t feel promising, and sent me for immediate mammogram and ultrasound.
The mammogram and ultrsound showed one large, smooth mass and two smaller cysts. I had the large mass core biopsied the same day, and the results a week later showed that no cancerous cells were detected. Because I am approaching 40, and because the lump is more than 3cm I was offered the chance to opt for removal.
Unfortunately, I also have a currently undiagnosed blood condition where my white cells are very low, so the hospital decided that surgery wouldn’t be safe.
Fast forward to summer this year. My left breast is now constantly painful, sometimes to the point where I can’t sleep at night. My left nipple has also been itchy. Additionally, at my last check-up at Kings College Hospital in August, my white blood count has shot up to high-normal range with no treatment, which has the consultant there baffled.

I went back to the breast clinic last week and explained the change in symptoms to the doctor. I had another mammogram and ultrasound, and was told that the large mass hasn’t grown, and that the other cysts are also unchanged. Again, I was told I have a fibroadenoma. Due to my change in symptoms I pushed for removal and am scheduled for surgery on 08 November.
I understand that these doctors are experts but I am so, so scared that this may turn out to be worse than we are all expecting. I have pushed for the lump to be removed as it just feels ‘wrong’ - please, does anyone have any experience with these symptoms who may be able to offer some information - I think I just want someone to tell me I’m imagining all this!!

Manythanks in advance for reading. Apologies for the long post.
