Painful finger nails

After 9 weeks of Pacitaxel, I’m in pain with all my finger nails!! They haven’t lifted off at all but it’s takes me so long to even dress myself cos they are so tender! Chemo nurses say it could take months to settle down!! Anyone else get this side effect?

Sorry you haven’t had response yet  I remember fingernails being more sensitive and this did settle after finishing chemo. I kept fingernails as I’d painted them black to protect from uv light, a tip that was passed down on the threads  if you can try ringing the number on here and speaking to a nurse, they might be able to suggest something that could help :two_hearts::two_hearts::sparkles::sparkles:Shi xx

Hi, my finger and toe nails came away after chemo. The only thing that helped me was putting plasters over each one. They seemed less sensitive by doing this. Ive also seen ladies at the hospital doing the same. They grew back quite quickly and they were fine then. x

I’m week 7 with Paclitaxel and have just started having issues. Luckily I did the https://lookgoodfeelbetter.co.uk/ hand and nail course via Zoom the week before and learnt how to care for my nails. I would highly recommend it and they send you a goody bag, I also did skincare and makeup also a goody bag on the way! I should have done the course before starting chemotherapy so you can get in the routine and help to prevent issues.

My nails are starting to ridge and become soft so nail strengthener is a must and as @Shi states paint black or dark burgundy. Mine are definitely very sensitive and just thought it was so to with the nerves (numbness/tingling with peripheral neuropathy). That could be the course of your pain.

I had a sore at the bottom of one nail and a surprising thing that was suggested was Vicks Vaporub as it has antiseptic properties. It worked to calm it down I two days!

Plasters were a no no as they don’t allow your nail/nail beds to heal. It was recommended if you loose a nail, soak in tea tree and warm water and rub in Vaporub.

Well worth booking a LGFB course.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. It’s been 4 weeks since I finished chemo and my nails are much better now. The pain and tenderness seemed to get better as the weeks went by!
