Palpable lump not seen on ultrasound

Hi,
So back in 2023 I found a lump in the outer quadrant my left breast, I went to my gp who could feel the palpable lump so referred to me to a clinic, I spent sept of 2023-February 2024 up and down to the clinic between waiting times on appointments, at the second appointment the dr said it was a Fibroadenoma and booked an ultrasound for another day, during this ultrasound they said nothing was there (after spending about 5 seconds on it) sent me home saying all was good. Fast forward to April of this year (2025) I went back to my gp as I felt the lump had grown (I felt a lot of pain in my breast between being at the clinic last and going back to my gp) the pain changed from a dull ache to a burning sensation which I could feel radiating from the exact spot where my lump is. So from April ‘25 to today (November’25) I have been dealing with a new clinic which at the beginning said fibroadenoma again and booked in for another ultrasound. (I am 24 and was told my tissue is too dense for a mammogram) At this 2nd ultrasound the woman told me that it was not showing on the ultrasound but that she could feel it, she spent around 30mins using different probes to try find it, she showed me on the screen what my tissue looked like and said that the lump wouldn’t even show as abnormal tissue as the lump is a very obvious round shape and that she mentioned that a biopsy should be done next to find out what it is, I then waited 9 weeks on a letter for my next appointment which never arrived, I rang multiple times and got no answers so I emailed them and they got back to me saying they were slightly confused as I had my ultrasound done, I went back to my gp who was furious over it, she booked me another appointment with the clinic which occurred today, the first dr who examined my breast looked worried and asked me ‘what age I was’ to then say she was going to get another dr. This doctor turned out to be my consultant who I had never met
she examined it, felt the lump straight and said I’ve lumpy breast tissue anyway so it should be that. I tried to ask questions about a biopsy I felt cut off every time I tried to speak, I asked am I not going to get a biopsy to which the reply was no and she left the room, the other doctor looked stunned.
I am at my wits end I just want answers with proof to back it up, I am constantly in pain, what should my next step be & has anyone else been in a situation like this? What was your outcome đŸ«¶đŸ»

How worrying for you. I would go back to your GP, who is obviously on your side, who can advocate on your behalf - my GP certainly knows the head oncologist at my hospital and sent her a direct message with a query at the beginning of my treatment, maybe your GP can do the same. I’d also put in a complaint via the Patient Advice and Liaison Service, known as PALS, at the hospital, detailing everything you’ve said here with dates and names if you have them. PALS can be very effective for moving things along. You’ve been through enough stress at a young age over this, time to strongly advocate for yourself. Let us know how you get on.

I would go back to your GP and ask for a second opinion. You are quite within your rights to do that

Absolutely, seek a second opinion. In the meantime, if it helps you feel any better, this happened to me: lump palpable and acknowledged by multiple HCPs, nothing on ultrasound. Was told it was just “bumpy” tissue, and it turned out to be the case. I did develop breast cancer many years later, but it was on the other breast - the one with the mystery lump was removed preventatively and had no cancer in it.
