I normally take paracetamol for headaches etc. but when I start chemo next week and have to keep a check on temperature (paracetamol bring temp. down) will they mask any high temperature. Cant take aspirin. Anyone any ideas?
Speak to your BCN. They will be able to advise you. I took ibruprofen on medical advice midway through chemo because of a UTI.
I was told quite specifically to avoid paracetamol during chemo and was advised to take codeine or ibuprofen instead as I can’t tolerate aspirin either.
Paracetamol is great for reducing temperatures but can mask other problems if taking them for a headache whilst on chemo.
Your chemo nurse or your BCN should be able to advise you on what’s best to take.

And yet my onc gave me paracetamol for se u never know who to belive
Thanks everyone will talk to BCN next week
I take 8 cocodemol(coedine and Parecetemol) a day for pain relief and took them right through chemo.
I suppose it depends on dx,but just check with your medical team.

Hi there, I was told to avoid paracetamol before chemo, then was told during it was ok as long as I took my temperature before I took it. If it was one off I took that advice but would advise not taking paracetamol unless advised to and definately not if temp over 37. Usually my unit give you advice on what to take but if not always phone and get advice direct from them.
Best wishes Bev x.
My Oncy unit gave me a big box of paras to take. I’m unable to use ibus as I have Crohn’s. But for folk who can tolerate ibus, they are usually preferred to be used during chemo.
I came home from oncy ward with paracetamol, and were given them on the ward without any problem.
