Pathologists Results

Hi everyone,

Went last Friday to see my Onc. Seems I have both oestrogen + and HER2+
cancers in same area. Anyone else had this? I have chemo starting 23rd March FEC x 3 then Tax x 3 along with herceptin…How scary does that lot sound, and its only primary cancer…
I took the decision that too many factors were against me ( 25MM tumour, 3 positive lymph nodes, DCIS, both oest+ and HER2+ pos. moderate to high chance of reoccurance) so will have a mastectomy at some point hopefully after RAD and thet can remove and recon at same time.

Hi B
I am in a similar situation with the factors, only I have already had a left mastectomy and full node removal (17 out of 17 infected).
My tumour was 3cm, oest+ and HER2+. I too am undergoing FEC followed by TAX (4 of each in my case), then Rads and Herceptin and Tamoxifen.
Yes it is scary and all the treatment seems such a long journey together with the constant worry, but all the treatment in my opinion is absolutely essential to give us the best possible chance -and it is doable, just try not to read too many horror stories, they don’t apply to everyone!
It’s really hard sometimes to stay positive but I just keep thinking they’re doing everything possible to get rid of the buggar!!
I wish you the best of luck and if you need any reassurance or more info, please ask.
Take care

Hi B,

Yes it is scary, and the treatment will seem to go on forever, but you will get through it and come out the other end. I was dx Feb07, 27mm grade 3 tumour, 3/16 nodes, had mastectomy, 4 FEC, 4 Tax, rads, 18 herceptin, finally finishing Dec last year (tho’ still on tamoxifen).

I think the worst time is before chemo - the thought of it is just so terrifying, but it really is not as bad as you imagine.

Best wishes to you

Hi, it is do-able…
I was diagnosed in May 2007 with the tumour meausering 75mm in diametre. results came back that i am both HER2 and estrogean positive. I had 4 rounds of EC and 4 rounds of Taxol with Gemcitabine which lasted a good 5 months. This was followed by a bilateral mastecomy, overies removed and full lymph node clearance where it was revealed that there was 9 out of 16 positive. Surgery was followed by Radiotherapy and a year of Herceptin. I have done all that and nearly completed my reconstrution, with just the little pill that i take daily of Arimidex.
I stayed positive throughout it all and still am, my oncologist and everyone at the hospital were brill. I’m fit and well and yes i can say… I’m cancer free.

Keep your spirits up and try to stay positive. There is light at the end of all the treatment.

Hugs to you all
