Hi all anybody used the paxman cold cep will be starting this Friday and have been told to use conditioner on my hair ??
Yes, I used it cycle 1. I was told to mix some conditioner with water in a squirty bottle, then you just spray your hair to dampen it. I have had some hair loss, looks like a lot but not really noticeable on my head. Cycle 2 is Monday… Will probably do the Paxman thing again, unless loads of hair comes out tomorrow ![]()
Thanks for that so use the conditioner just before they put on cap ?
Yes, I did.
Dampen hair and smooth thru with generous amount of conditioner. Comb thru. Insist that the nurse takes time to ensure properly fitted and every part of head is in contact with the cap, especially the crown. Put a bit of cotton wool or gauze on top of ears for protection.
Make sure you take strong painkillers 30 mins before you start. It does hurt for first 15-20 mins then goes numb.
I started to shed (quite a lot) on day 16 which was horrifying but I persisted with the cap, and by the end I had kept a full fringe and most of my hair at nape of neck but thinned a lot on top. I needed to wear a wig or scarf for a few weeks but I had a very strong re growth start around my 5th session and felt ok to go without covering about 6 weeks of end of chemo.
My hair has growth thickly and healthily since. I finished in July and have had 3 haircuts to help blend old and new hair lengths. I am getting so many compliments about my hair now, it looks entirely normal but a lot shorter than it was before!
I’m sure the paxman helped protect the follicles so that it grew back quickly. You do wonder if it’s working when you start to shed. I was on the strongest FEC-T and was told that it wouldn’t work but I don’t regret it for a minute. I kept it on for the max time allowed afterwards which was difficult but I was determined to get the best result possible. It was the one thing I could control.
I wish you all the very best. It’s a horrible time but when you are out the other end it seems like a distant memory. If you need to know anything else, please let me know.
Rebecca xx
Thank you very much for that do they suggest any conditioner or just your normal ? I am really scared of the whole hair loss c
Great thanks for the positive words on that so nervous
Yeah thanks for all your positive notes been really helpful. I know we just gota go with the flow as far as hair loss goes - but be nice to keep it if possible. ??
Thank you so will defo give it a go xx
Seavite shampoo and condtioner for going thro chemo has been recommended to me and approved by doctors there is a website to look at. I hardly lost any hair with round one (from my head anyway!) with the cold cap but round two it started shedding really badly straight away on the crown although as it’s long and stratight the style helps disguise it. Other areas seem reasonably secure. Will persevere with the cold cap tho.
