Has anyone had experience with radiotherapy and mild Pectus Excavatum? I have had 3 lumpectomies in the last year for DCIS . The last one was very painful as they remodelled tissue and did lipofill. I was told that I had one margin not clear and we could do another excision and then radio therapy. But the surgeon now says that radiotherapy may not be possible for me because I have Pectus Excavatum. I went to radiotherapy and the oncologist told me it’s too difficult to do radiotherapy and I should have a mastectomy. I feel so upset and let down by the care I have had. They knew I had Pectus Excavatum from the start when they did a chest x-ray in September but let me wait and go through two lumpectomies (over 7 months) only to be told I need a mastectomy as Radiotherapy would never have been an option for me. I really have lost confidence in the surgeon and care I have recieved and I’m not sure what to do next.
Dear Poppy_88
I am sorry that you havent had a reply yet, it may be that not many people are aware of pectus excvatum. You may find it helpful to talk to one of our specialists on our free Helpline, 0808 800 6000. Or maybe post a question on the Ask Our Nurses area of the Forum where one of our specialist nurses can respond there.
Best wishes
