People’s reactions to a mastectomy

That’s great advice :smiley: They’ve brought my appointment forward to this afternoon so I’m writing everything down so I don’t forget !
I’m feeling nervous because it means operation date is closer (I hope )

No I haven’t , sadly my hospital don’t offer DIEP reconstruction

Hi,

It is my understanding that you go to a different hospital for the DIEP - there is East Grinstead, St Thomas and a few others - it is worth a google. My hospital doesn’t do it but I will travel.

It’s Oxford for me but I was told there is a longer waiting list so have decided against it x
I do t really want to delay the surgery longer than I need to as it’s already a month since my diagnosis .

I really feel for you - I am also 52 and I hate my new body.

I didn’t make it clear I had my mastectomy at the normal hospital and then will have to wait for reconstruction anyway as they don’t do it at the same time. ( they would not do an implant at same time as radiotherapy can mess it up).

I waited 3 months for my first operation. x

I just think you might feel better if you look at all your options. I do NOT want the DIEP surgery but feel the alternative is worse for me. Everyone is different though.
x

@twinkletits I’m 52 as well x
Did you have a single or double mastectomy. ?
It’s hard coming to terms with losing a part of our femininity, I keep telling myself I’m not defined by my breasts but I know I’m going to struggle to adapt to my new shape . I’ve been told today I’m too much of a risk for an immediate reconstruction so will be having a single mastectomy

Hi

I had a single mastectomy in March and I still hate my new body……

@twinkletits - I’m so sorry :cry: It’s such a major surgery and so life changing , I don’t think people realise how it can affect you x
