Hi Rachtee,

Welcome to the forum.

I am sure some of our users will be along to share their support and experiences soon. You may also wish to post on the benign breast conditions board which you can find here. This is a busy and supportive board where I am sure you will find some information.

Best wishes,

Hi rachtee what’s happening with your mastitis I too am hitting a brick wall with any docs or breast clinic takinge seriously I don’t no how old this post is would be great to hear from you

Hi Hay
How long have you had your mastitis?
I’ve had it about a year in the left breast I did have a nipple piercing but consultant says that hasn’t caused it which I thought strange. It started as a lump about the size of a marble then the burning, red veins and then flared into an abscess that was aspirated, pretty horrible it continued to come back in bouts almost every other week always being treated with co-amoxyclav antibiotics which settle it really quickly but I’ve had these about every 2/3 weeks for the last 7 months which worries me I’ve never had so many antibiotics in my life.
Consultants say surgery is totally out as it often comes back and then becomes a scooping effect where they constantly are scooping out breast tissue my Mastitis has settled down recently when im more active it can get irritated and flare up again, docs say it will burn itself out but there’s no timescale.
I’m feeling pretty positive just now as its been OK for 2/3 weeks but just take it as it comes I got to the stage I could have cut it off because the abcess leaked constantly and smelled i had 3 fistulas and the pain was like nothing I’ve ever experienced and I’ve done labour twice!
I hope even hearing another experience helps if you need a chat or a moan it is so frustrating

Hi, I’m not sure how old this comment is but I too am dealing with this. I have been on so many antibiotics it’s unreal and currently have 4 wounds around my nipple that I am having to get packed daily. And even then the consultant isn’t sure that it won’t require surgery. Very disheartening as there is so little known about this as apparently rare so it’s hard to gage when this will all end! Apparently smoking is a risk factor (90%of people with it smoke) but I quit about 4 years ago! Xx
