Hi,
So I finally attended my breast assessment today and after the initial mammogram the doctor thought it was benign and likely periductal mastitis. However, during the ultrasound that followed they confirmed it wasn’t a cyst so felt it necessary to take biopsy samples and insert markers before sending me back for another mammogram. When I saw the doctor the second time she conceded that whilst she had been unconcerned her colleague was worried that the small pea-like lump had an irregular outline shape.
So I had some relief and reassurance though it was short-lived. Now I’m wondering if it is periductal mastitis and there is an abscess, is the irregular shape normal?? Or does that in itself suggest something more?
I’m trying to stay calm now as the 4 week wait from referral to appointment was bad and I couldn’t help piecing together every little thing and imagining the worst. Can I take reassurance from the fact there were no immediate alarm bells or klaxons going?? I guess I am hoping that it’ll still be nothing or if it is BC it will only be a little bit needing minimal treatment. Does that make any sense?
