I have just finished two years of monthly injections of zoladex, I am still on tamoxifen for a futher 3 years. I haven’t had a period for the whole of the past two years which has been quite nice. I just wondered what next to expect, do the periods come back. I am 43 was diagnosed when I was 41, had bilateral mastectomy in Aug 06, recon in May 07, nipple recon in May 08 and now waiting for the tatooing in Nov 08.
I was the same age as you when I was 1st dx. I had WLE, rads then onto Zoladex for 2 years, Tamoxifen for 5. My onc was sure that the Zoladex would push me into my natural menopause but she was wrong! My periods came back about 4-5 months after stopping Zoladex, unfortunately they were very heavy to begin with which I wasn’t used to but did calm down after a while. I don’t think there’s a definite answer about what to expect as it will depend on each woman’s own likelihood of an earlier menopause but be warned your periods could come back!
Hello Karen, I am 47, was diagnosed at 45, been on zoladex and tamoxifen for the past 2 years, just finished last zoladex a month ago and 3 years still to go on tamoxifen. The surgeon told me last month that periods should return in about 6 or 7 months.
I asked in another post in this forum about the sweating improving after finishing zoladex, the surgeon told me I should notice a big improvement after stopping zoladex but my question in the other post was how soon should I notice an improvement. Someone replied that there would be an improvement but I still don’t know how soon I can expect to notice it.
Edit> oops I have just noticed that the ‘someone’ was yourself nicky 08 who replied to my other post
