Hi,
I’m on my third epi and had my last period 25th February. Yesterday I have come on really heavy - I mean really really heavy. Its they type of period you have when you give birth. I was told my periods are supposed to stop ? Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi Suky
I had a period every month as usual during my chemo. Had 3xFec and 3 x tax, and finished in November and things carried on as normal. Part of me hoped it would stop (lol), but no such luck!!! Mine were normal too, nothing like after having my muppets!
Hopefully this is a one of for you, rest and take some paracetamol or something. Hope you are OK and it settles down for you.
Love
Dawn

Hi dawn,
Thanks for getting back to me. I was told they would stop. Saying that I’m due to start Tax next so i’ll keep well supplies stocked.
Thanks
Sukes
Hiya Sukes
I had my last period 5 days after Epi No. 4 in April last year and they haven’t returned. I’ve just had a blood test which confirms that I’m menopausal (I’m 47).

Hi Jez & Dawn,
Sorry in my thread i say my last period was the 25th Feb - I mean it was the 4th Feb - just double checked.
I spoke to the BCN about it as she said if my period is still really heavy by tomorrow to go to A&E and get a blood test to get my platelets (what ever they are?) checked out.
I was always under ther impression that chemo shut down your ovaries and tamoxifen ontop of that was going to do make sure that happens.
Also i’m only 34. thanks
Sukes
Hi Sukes, periods are different for everyone while having chemo and on tamoxifen. Mine came every 2 weeks but were just normal. My last one was 21 Dec after 5th Chemo and no more since , Im now on Tam. Was told might only get 3 or 4 a yr while on Tam ( I,m 39 ) . You must speak to the DR or your BC nurse especially if it happens again. Best wishes to you.

How odd that it affects people so differently. I’m 51 and can’t be far off natural menopause, only came off the oral contraceptive pill in Jan 07 and have had regular periods since then, though they only last 3 days (one heavy, two very light), and at just under 4 week intervals. I had my last one on 17 Feb, 6 weeks ago, and wondered if for some reason having the mastectomy and recon have affected it? Start Epi-CMF on 11 April, with rads and tamoxifen to follow, and have assumed they’ll never go back to normal now. Grrr, men just don’t know what they’re missing! Lyn xx
Hi Sukes,
Hope you haven’t had to go to A&E! I was on E-CMF chemo from May to Oct last year and my periods continued throughout (I’m 35 now). They also didn’t stop when I started Tamoxifen either so I am now on Zoladex too. Hoping they come back when all this treatment has finished in 4 1/2 years as I wanna have a baby! So many people are chuffed when they’re periods stop but not me I’m afraid.
Anyway, hope you’re ok,
Take care,
Kelly

Hi Kelly, Lynn, Dawn, Julie, Angie,
thanks for all the advise ladies. I’m still having a super heavy period I don’t want to go into too much detail but i’m using the super large tampax’s as well as a sanitary towel and both need changing within 3-4 hours. On my periods prior to chemo all I needed was a super large for about 8 hours. If things don’t improve by tomorrow I will go to the hospital to get my bloods checked.
Kelly - Have faith and believe you will have a baby. I have read many a times how ladies have had kids after chemo and Tamaxafin.
Sorry for the detail but i’m just worried about it loosing too much blood and it delaying chemo!
regards
Sukes
Sukes, if you can last 3-4 hours without changing I wouldn’t think you’re losing enough blood to cause a problem. My normal ‘heavy’ days require changing a Super Plus Lillets tampon every hour through the day (usually with a panty liner but when it’s bad I use a thin Always towel as well), and twice overnight, and I could never go 8 hours except perhaps on the very last day. I hope it eases up for you but if you’re still worried after the weekend perhaps you could ring the hospital for advice. All the very best, it’s so miserable and I hope you feel much better soon. Hi Sukes
My periods stopped after my second epi ( Feb 2006). My last one was HORRENDOUS - just as you say. It was like a miscarriage and full of clots ( Sorry for the too much information!). It went on for 10 days but when I rang onc he said not to worry the drugs can cause it. I never had any more after that . . .
Good Luck

Sukes, how are you doing? Hope it’s settling down and you’re feeling better. I spoke too soon, started this evening, darker than usual, hope it means I won’t have it during the days after first chemo. Good luck. Lyn xx
Hi All,
Just to let you know things have settled down now so I’m feeling alot better. Just glad its almost over before I start my next dose of Chemo. I’m due to start the dreaded Taxatore on 8th so I should totally finish by then.
Thanks for all the support ladies.
