I have been on tamoxafin since august, and still having very heavy periods. My Plastic surgeon thinks I shouldn’t’t be having periods, but my oncologist says is normal, he says zoladex or removing my ovaries won’t affect my cancer treatment. I am ER+++ and PR++.
I find this confusing as I thought the Tamoxifen was supposed to stop all hormones and periods.
I have been on tamoxifen for 20 months (March 07) and until last month had very heavy and regular periods. My onc and consultant have not been concerned and say periods for some women don’t stop but the tablets will still work. Their job is to block oestrogen from latching onto rogue cancer cells apparantly.
Last month I had a very late and light period and am late again this month so will have to see what happens - maybe they’re only just kicking in!
I too am not on zoladex.
I think we just have to go with what our experts think is right.
Take care
I to started Tamoxifen in August and have been having heavy periods and a lot of pain mid cycle. My onc. is sending me for an ultrasound ( tomorrow actually ).
Tamoxifen does not put you into menopause, but as Shorty says blocks the oestrogen before it latches onto those nasty rogue cancer cells. In higher doses Tamoxifen is also used to treat infertility, as it increases ovulation.
