periods

my periods have got worse since i started chemo. i used to have them for about 4 to 5 days and was quite light with the odd heavy now and again but now i have them for 8 days +. i saw my onc registrar and she was very unsympathetic and told me it was nothing to do with chemo and i would have to go to my gp and get referred to the relevent person. i told her my mum’s aunt died of ovarian cancer and did that put me at risk and again she was unhelpful. she told me that because it wasn’t my mums sister then my risk was reduced. i have a period just now and have had it for 8 days and am really pissed off with it. if it’s not bad enough having to cope with side effects from chemo i have to cope with a flipping period, i am shouting at the computer as i type this - sorry rant over, thanks for listening or rather reading.

love, hugs and good wishes to you all. x

Hi FB

I have had 4 fec and 2 tax, 2 more to go then on to rads. x

Sorry Vodka, can’t help as mine stopped after 1st FEC. Have had some bad period pains though.
Just wanted to give you hugs and hope you get some joy from your GP.

Hi again Vodka

It’s so annoying that we all react differently to the treatment and we all get different side effects.

My periods went and have now come back (why oh why did they manage that!) , other people’s have disappeared off into the blue …

When you think about it I kept my hair … you’ve kept your periods … I think I got the end of the chiristmas cracker with the present in it - don’t you ??? Mind you my neutrofils went away and never came back… lol …:-)… I dread having another blood test and being told my immune system is on the floor still

When it’s netorfils it’s great when they stay high, when it’s hair it’s fabulous it hasn’t gone and periods depends on what you are worried about and what you want to happen after this!

Hope it’s easing off a bit now - I was going to say try not to worry - but it’s just so difficult to know when to worry and when not to worry - i think you’ve either got to stop worrying about it and put it out your mind or take some sort of action for a test …

Good luck with whatever you decide

Nice to have a chat anyway
love FB xx

you might also have a fibroid … perhaps you could check the other symptoms for that on the internet?

Hi Vodka, I had to have my marina coil taken out before I had chemo and boy have my periods been heavy since. I had my 2nd epi on 22nd Sept and started period same day. I’ve still got it tonight and not to sound too gruesome is still bright red, so goodness knows when it will stop. As I haven’t seen the oncologist since my first chemo, it’s a bit difficult to ask. I may phone up Chemo unit and ask the nurses who seem to be pretty knowledgable. To add insult I’ve got thrush due to a weeks antibiotics. I’m going to try and get appointment to discuss this prob with gp and I’ll ask about the periods too and get back to you. Hopefully I’ll have a more sympathetic doc…but hey ho its the nhs, plus they aren’t specialist in this area are they? speak soon. chin up Fiona

got to laugh - felt down and sad over the weekend and guess what - period stared again after a week!

hi voddy

I wish I had never written on this thread … I have had a very light period since i wrote the above … and today is my last day of treament … and i have woken up with a huge one! … no wonder they call it the curse … i’m never commenting about periods on here again!!! …

hope yours are getting better … and i hope this stops before another 8 days …

Hi FB,

Sorry your getting bother with yours too. mine are not painful now just longer and heavier and irregular. it really is getting me down not to mention the side effects from chemo that i’m suffering. i’m not due till next week but am already getting slight spotting!
last year i had a pelvic scan because of painful periods and all was clear.
i wish men suffered something like this every month!
2 more lots of tax to go then on to rads for 5 weeks. glad this is your last day of treatment.
