Phantom Nipples

Doesanyone else who has had mastectomies/recon have the ‘phantom nipple’ feeling? Kinda like when those who have had their leg cut off can still feel their toes…

Hi poannie
Not sure if this is what you mean + strange as it may sound but I still think nipple is there. Whether tis cos of bein used to it bein there or tingly sensations every now + then I don’t know! Also re yr other thread - bubbly feeling - small areas feel like bubble wrap under the skin, mainly where the port is - was told it could be the tube from the port to the implant + should disappear when port is removed.

Hi

I’m not sure if this is relevant or not but I have had a mastectomy without recon (waiting till next year). I have had sensations that feel like my nipple and breast area. Some mornings I wake up and forget it’s not there.

I think its the nerve ending that have been damaged that send strange messages to the brain (at least that was what I was told when I mentioned it to my nurse). Apparently it is quite common to ‘feel’ things after this type of surgery.

All the best

Hi there

I have to agree with you all. I just had my op this week but its a really weird feeling - as if the nipple is still there. Hopefully, it will pass soon.

God bless.

I have had mastectomy and sometimes feel the breast is there. Weird feeling!

Hi
I had phantom nipple sensations at random times after my op., sort of erect nipple sensations like when you get the shivers, only without the shivers, slightly odd; but I liked it, it was sort of erotic, and it gradually faded and is now gone, and I have nothing, not even a grave to remember by and it makes me very sad.

In fact what I feel now is an “absence” - this is hard to describe, but I have a sensation of the breast not being there. Sometimes I get a sort of clenched breast feeling, a feeling I never had before the op., and I have no breast to clench, so maybe it is the pectoral muscle clenching, but why does it do that, randomly, the other side doesn’t? And I have this sort of feeling like there should be a sensation and there isn’t and it is a kind of short-circuit. I think it is because I can send messages from my brain to all parts to sort of “monitor” them but this particular message doesn’t get through, it is sort of thwarted.

And the remaining breast I am not aware of at all (unless I actually touch it to remind myself it’s there) it’s like it isn’t there. So I have breast sensations where there is no breast, and no sensations where there is a breast - how lopsided is that? I find it really disturbing.

Anyone else had the same?
