Hi, I have recently had surgery to remove a 5cm lump. Originally this was thought to be a fibroid, but after a core biopsy I was told that the lump was thought to be a benign phyllodes tumour and would need to be removed asap. I had my surgery on the 8th Dec, and today received a letter to say that the lump showed no evidence of malignancy and was a fibroidadenoma (sorry for spelling). Whilst i am over the moon that the lump is benign, I am still a little upside down. I phoned the hospital to ask when my follow up appointment would be as the recovery nurse said the surgeon had requested I be seen in two weeks, and was told that follow ups are not needed. I am really confused as two weeks ago I was told that the surgery was needed quickly and now I feel like I cant get any answers. I am worried as to whether the lump will return and I have a lot of unanswered questions.
Is anyone else in a similar situation
Thanks
I am dealing with the same thing at the moment. I have had two biopsy now. The first one they said it was fibroid tumor. and when i went for my 6 month follow up it had gotten big and it is hurting. so now they are saying phyllodes which they think it is 5cm-10cm in size and since iam not that busty. the want to remove the whole breast. which iam worried about but they say it is better this way cause it I will not worry about it coming back… I am looking into surgery here in two weeks… I just now seen this was a couple of years ago how did yours turn out ?
Hi jo and lorililly , I’ve never joined a forum before so this is very new to me. I’m looking for a place to talk through my breast history and although it’s great talking to family, I’m at the stage where I need help from people who have been through/going through the same thing. At age 17 I went to the breast clinic with my first lump, as it was large the doctors gave me no choice but to remove it, it was confirmed as a fibroadenoma, by the same time next year I’d had my 2nd removed, and my I was in my early 20s I was back to have another removed, this time I was told it was the same as the all the others, a fibroadenoma and they would remove as before. Expecting no follow up I was surprised to receive an urgent letter a week after the operation saying I needed to return to undergo more surgery, the results had shown it to be a phyllodes tumour. Although benign, I needed the “margins” removed, which left me with more scarring. I know we’re told to check ourselves and go straight to the gp with any lumps I always leave it a good 6montha before I return. I can’t say I’ve had the best experience and I hate to say it but I feel like a nuisance and because of my long history I feel that obviously people with cancer take priority and I get a feeling of “oh she’s here again another lump” from the doctors. I went back late last year as a lump I’ve had for a while seemed to be growing in size. They confirmed this but in their words “for fear of making me a human checkerboard” they said surgery was up to me. The ultrasound man has said the last few times I’ve been that it’s more of a case of where not to find lumps in my breasts rather than where to find one. They’ve never told me how many I have but they have said they’ve never seen anyone through their doors with as many. I opted to think about surgery. However what if there’s more phyllodes? They couldn’t tell the last one was, they thought it was another fibroadenoma. I’ve also read that those prone to phyllodes will likely have more and that they are prone to getting nasty. I’m so sorry to bore you all wth my long history. It’s something that’s on my mind every single day. I’m not sure if I’ll even get a reply if I’ve done this right or not. I just want some help. Thanks for reading if it’s made it’s way to anyone out there!! D x
