Picc line fitted

Hi
How long does it take for a picc line to be fitted please?

Hi stafford22,
When I had mine fitted it took around 20 minutes, not painful just uncomfortable for a while.

Thanks for replying, that’s good to know. I didn’t know I was having one until today x

Mine took less that half an hour including chat first and walking along the corridor. I was so nervous but it was not a problem at all.

Hi
The whole procedure from chat, lie down, insertion and checks took around 20 minutes
Mine was done the morning I started chemo and the nurses were really caring and patient with me as i was a bit overwhelmed
If you need someone with you ask

When it came to taking it out 4 months later it took seconds and I didn’t feel a thing

Good luck xx

Thanks, I am nervous about it but reading your comments it’s made me feel happier. Chemo starts next week/week after for me, but maybe sooner as I’ve said I’ll take a cancellation x

Hi stafford22

Thanks for posting.

It’s understandable that you’re feeling concerned about having a PICC line fitted but it can be a helpful way to give chemotherapy and may also be used to collect blood samples during your treatment. It means you will not need to have needles put in every time you have treatment.

As @clio18, @norts and @curlywurly1 all say, the procedure usually takes between 20 – 30 minutes and may be a little uncomfortable but is not usually painful.
