Hi,
I am starting chemo tomorrow and went today to have my picc line inserted, but after 5 attempts, it still wouldn’t go in. Tomorrow I have to go to another department where they will inject ink and guide it using an xray. (This is 3 hours before my chemo starts. stressy!) Has anyone else had this problem? Did they manage to get it in in the end.
Thanks for reading x
Hi Josie
I had the same problem. Went in for what was supposed to be a simple half hour procedure. Was still lying there 2hrs later, with a very bruised arm! My PICC nurse offered to try again the next day! He told me to drink lots and he wrapped my arm to warm the veins. Then he said he would try to get his needle in without using the local anaesthetic!! It hurt a little, but it worked
not sure who was happier him or me! Still had bruising wks later, but having the line does make life easier! (although I ave had issues with staff not knowing how to flush it properly) oh and I ended up having the line put in on the morning of my 2nd Chemo! Lots of running around to different departments but it was fine.
Good Luck xx
