piles question

Hello ladies,
Bit of advice please?
I’ve had 2 ec treatments so far and 2nd went well. I’m on day 10. Today but had a dodgy tummy and have a very sore bottom which bleeds. Today its got slowly worse and just been again and noticed loads of blood in the loo which scared me.
I’ve put cream on but I’m worried about the amount I saw.
Should I ring the dr’s in the morn or is that normal with piles!
Thanks I’ll try get back to sleep now got school run in the morning.

Hi Fran,
I had some terrible problems with a sore bleeding bottom when I was having Fec chemo last year. It wasn’t piles but a combination of infection and thrush brought on by the treatment. I was given a combi-cream, which contained an anti-fungal, antibiotic and hydrocortisone. It helped a bit but only really cleared up when I got the diarrhea under control.
Best to see your GP and if you have bad diarrhea tell your BCN or your onc at your next appt. I took Immodium to control it, so nothing special.
Hope you find a solution

Always show anal bleeding to your GP. It’s no time to be shy.

I had very hard stool after FEC and Docetaxel and they gave me Lactulose to soften things up and also Scheriproct cream, I also use Sudocream. I told onc this week re the bleeding when going painfully to the loo, she wasn’t bothered about it, just asked I had creams to use (which I have from the GP).

I was bleeding like this through chemo and a little while after, but I had low platelets, you should always mention it to your chemo support team, give them a ring and they are the best people to advise you.

Thanks ladies…
I realised that it wasn’t all blood! I had eaten beetroot! Lol
I do have a bit when I wipe but not loads and its a bit painful! Just trying to watch what I eat so as not to aggrivate my bum!
I’ll keep an eye on it and hope it gets better.

Hi there,

Ask the GP or your chemo unit for LAXIDO sachets … amazing!!

(Wish I had known about them sooner than I did!!!)

Leeds,

If there is blood and pain on having your bowels open it is usually because you have passed a hard stool that has torn the skin on the edge of your anus. This is called an anal fissure. Your gp should be able to firstly look and see, ( sorry he/she should), then give laxido or someting to drink and make stool softer, and someting to apply to tear like uniroid or rectogesic. I have had same issue with both FEC and Tax !!

Also try prunes, dred apricots, fluids++, difficult if feeling sick or sore mouth etc.

Agree with Ninja - best to discuss rectal bleeding with a doctor. Could be totally unconnected with chemo and could warrant further investigation.

“If there is blood and pain on having your bowels open it is usually because you have passed a hard stool that has torn the skin on the edge of your anus”

…or then it could be haemorrhoids, Crohn’s disease, campylobacter infection or one of many other things more sinister.

Heard all the adverts in the media recently? Tell your GP. It’s best to be safe.

Sounds like piles to me, poor you! not al all pleasant is it. I took lactulose and stewed prunes 3 times a day. It certainly worked, but 6 months on I now cant stand the sight of prunes, which were my favourite pudding! Good Luck…xx

Toatally agree Ninja, just trying to be reassuring, common things are common and did advice see Gp to be checked.

Wasn’t criticising you, Ruth, just trying to persuade OP to get it checked out.

Hello
I haven’t spoken to the dr yet, was going to see how I got on. So far only a bit of blood. I do think its piles though…I don’t like to think its anything more sinister. Thanks for caring xx

Hi Leeds39,

I have also got a little blood when going to the toilet, went out and bought some germinoids cream have been applying it twice daily and the blood has stopped and the pain as well, I was constipated before and like others have mentioned it could be a fissure, I’m going to my dr on monday just to make sure it is nothing sinister and too confirm what I already think and that it is piles, try the cream it comes with an applicator for easy insertion and really does give relief.

Hope this helps
