Plantar palmer syndrome

Hi. After 3 EC, my main side effect is very sore feet. They are red and sore around the sole area nearest toes. My hands occasionally feel stingy too. It’s uncomfortable to walk. Is this hand foot syndrome? I’m about to change to docetaxel which I see can also cause same. What can i do to cure it? I walk a lot and my job involves standing all day. Thank you.

I used cold socks and mitts during my docetaxel treatment - I ordered from Amazon. I bought a few and kept changing them once they had thawed a bit. In other countries this is standard practice and you would be given them. I never developed peripheral neuropathy which is what I think you are referring to. All the best.

Thank you @hopeful1974. No I don’t think it is peripheral neuropathy. Think it is plantar parmar syndrome which is just very sore skin on hands and feet. However I do start docetaxel next week and I have ordered compression socks snd gloves to try and prevent neuropathy. Thank you and hope you are well now x

That makes sense. Yes, I am all well now thanks. Chemo is tough but it will soon be in the past. I’m living my best life now - lots of travelling and seizing the day! X

I had my chemo in 2021 so it is starting to seem like a distant memory!

I was given vitamin B6, lots of cream +/- urea, bamboo socks and two layer of socks.

Thanks @SMBW18. I have got cream with urea to use. I’ll try the other suggestions too. Hope you are well now. X

Hi bluesatsuma,

Thanks for your post.

This sounds quite difficult especially if you are standing a lot for work.

What you describe could be hand- foot (palmar-plantar) syndrome. This is different to peripheral neuropathy which @hopeful1974 was wondering if it was.

Our information about includes about what might help. These suggestions are to help manage rather than cure hand- foot syndrome. These symptoms usually improve once treatment is complete. Do speak to your treatment team to see what they recommend as you say you are starting docetaxel soon and this is a side effect. It’s important they are aware of any side effects you are experiencing.
