Hi there! What is the protocol for a low platelets situation in between cycles. My partner had her bloodworks done today and her platelets are very low ( 61). She was seeing tiny red spots all over her body yesterday with splitting headaches and extreme body pain so we came to the emergency to get her it checked and her bloodworks done. Throughout her actual chemo in the past 7-8 months , her platelets have never dropped so dangerously low and we don’t know how to proceed from here. The doctors on call don’t seen to know how to proceed and initially even tried to diss it as a mild reaction to Kladcyla that can be managed with creams etc. We don’t know if it the right thing to do, we have come home for now but maybe all we can do is sit and wait. Any suggestions on how to up the platelets naturally are welcome !
I’m sorry your partner isn’t well. I have no experience of this but I’m sure I would call the 24 hour phone number on the card given to me at my first Oncology appointment. They would rather you told them than worry needlessly.
We have been to the emergency and honestly they haven’t been much help of late. The waiting times are unreal and by the time something happens the doctors are gone for the day. The systematic load on the hospital system is too much I’m guessing. I really hope they are able to find a way to get things easier for everyone. My mental health has suffered immensely seeing my partner like this and I feel so helpless. Seeing your loved ones like this is the worst feeling ever, but no other choice than to push through with a brave smile and a optimistic attitude.
