Hi all I found a lump in my breast last week and doctor has said they have referred me to the breast clinic with a wait of no longer than 2 weeks. This wait is unbearable and I have made the mistake of going on google which hasn’t helped. My symptoms are
Lump under the skin that you can feel size roughly 1-2cm
Breast feels full and is swollen
Breast is red around the area of the lump and bottom half
I have a large vein appeared on the breast
Anyone have any ideas am I going mad
Deep breath Midnightmagic: Yep, 2 weeks sounds like an eternity when you are worried, and Dr Google will send you way out in orbit. But you’re playing the waiting game come what may, so you might as well do it on your terms.
Here goes:
First thing to say is that many, many referals to the breast clinic turn out to be something benign, but you obviously won’t know what you’ve got, if anything, till you’ve been. So if you can, try to welcome the fact that you have been referred, then if it is nothing, your mind will be at rest, and if it is “something” then it can be dealt with.
Second off, DO NOT GOOGLE unless it is this site or Macmillan- it’s a rule on here. :smileylol: The reason for this is that there have been huge advances in diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer in recent years, and many things on Google are either inaccurate or very out of date so it scares people.
I know the word cancer strikes fear into everyone’s heart even at the mere though that they might have it, but you don’t know if you have yet, so try not to worry ahead of time. (Easy to say, I know, but it really doesn’t help you. ) Breast cancer is one of the more treatable cancers, with a huge variety of treatments depending on one’s individual diagnosis, so if do have it this means it has been picked up and can be dealt with. Chin up, and try to put it to the back of your mind as far as possible. Let us know how you get on, as many ladies report back after their visits to the breast clinic to say they have something benign, which reassures others. xxxxxxx

Very wise words from Optimissy and I totally echo them.

Thank you so much for your reply x and you so right I think am.just getting myself into a mess over something that could possibly be nothing x
Will make sure i update as and when i have news x and so pleased I have found this site it’s so hard as am mother of two children aged 14 and 10 and the only person who knows what’s going on is my husband who isn’t particularly forcomthing with emotions etc
I can only echo the advice the ladies have already given, you can sit in a corner and rock for two weeks but it won’t make an ounce of difference to the outcome and will make an already stressful time pretty unbearable , we do know just how you feel and it’s impossible not to be worried but in all honesty the majority of ladies who come through the forum waiting on an appointment will come back to report they have been given the all clear, ? We can’t speculate as to what the outcome will be , some have lumps, some have nothing, some have pain some don’t etc etc! There is no rhyme or reason to it and symptoms vary so much it’s an impossible task!
Dig deep enjoy Christmas with your little ones and deal with it afterwards Xx Jo
