hello
my name is leanne and my best friend has just been diagnosed with cancer, ageed just 22!! she will have to have the double mastectomy and chemotherapy and we are very concerned about her fertility afterwards,i have read other websites and they say that you may become infertile especialy if you are near menopause, obviosly with her only being 22 she is nowere near her menopause so i was just wondering if that will reduce her risk of becoming infertile?? she has no children yet. thanks xx
Hi Leanne,
Firstly i’ve got to say you are a good friend to her…My best friend was on here the day after i was diagnosed asking what she can do to help! And she is AMAZING!
I’m Lauren, 25yrs old and was diagnosed on 25th April…I’ve had a mastectomy and am on dose number 2 of chemo, with 6 more to follow…And as much as she must be totally devastated right now,she will get through this with good friends like you around her…And come out the other side a very strong person…This bloody cancer shouldn’t be affecting any of us at all, especially at such young ages…It makes me mad…
I have 2 small children and was still breastfeeding when diagnosed but have been told by my consultant & chemo doctor that i have about an 85% + chance of regaining full fertility after chemo although i am very content with my babies…So please don’t read too much right now as you find more bad than good on the net…
However, has she considered freezing some eggs before chemo starts? When she sees the chemo doc it is something she can discuss with him and is something that many ladies do.
I hope i haven’t rambled on and bored you, if you or your friend need someone to talk to the ladies on here are fantastic and such a great support…Also if you are on facebook we have a group on there and you may find it easier to chat knowing who we all are…
Lots of Love & Hugs at such a tough time

thanks very much for that, was a very nice message ![]()
my friend has been to the fertility clinic now and they have said that she should have no problem getting pregnant after the chemo, and even if the chemo does destroy her eggs then she will be able to have donated eggs,so that is very good news!!
yes it makes me mad too!!! i was kind of upset and angry at the same time when i found out,she is coping realy well though so thats good!
we will have to just take every day as it comes.
i hope all go’s well for you and your family ![]()

So sorry to hear that your friend has developed bc at the age of 22 … as Lolly says none of us should have to suffer this horrible nasty disease but to develop it at 22 is just horrendous. It’s good that she has such a caring friend in you.
