Hi everyone I had an LD reconstruction in October 2007 and the port they used to inflate the implant was left in. I was asked if I wanted to have it taken out or left in and I chose at the time to have it left in.
It is no problem most of the time but when I wear a proper bra as opposed to a crop top it gets really sore. I still have the option of having it removed but was wondering if anyone on the forum has any experience of this.
Does the port removal leave another scar and do you have a general or local?
Any advice appreciated.
Hi, I still have my port and have the same sensation sometimes depending on what bra I wear (also some yoga moves crush it, lol).
My friend had hers removed under local in November and the scar is barely visible.
My consultant said if ever I want it removed he will do it but I am going to leve it there for now as recently had surgery to my opposite side (duct removal) so may need some furher adjustment on my mastectomy/LD side.
I am pleased you put this blog on as I often get fed up of the port and you often think to yourself that it is a minor thing after all we have been through, but it is uncomfortable sometimes isn’t it?
Let me know of your decision

Thanks for this - it has made me feel better knowing that someone understands. it is such a trivial thing and I feel such a wimp at times complaining about a sore port!
I will let you know what I decide to do after I have seen my BC nurse.

Please do, I shall wait for your response.
Hi,
my port was left in and was right on top of a rib so very uncomfortable and I couldnt wear a bra or sleep because of it. I didnt want it out because like humbug I may need adjustments later on (up or down in size) so I asked for it to be moved to a better position which my plastic surgeon was more than happy to do. He moved it under a local using the original scar.
Hi girls! My port (after LD recon) is still there and driving me mad. Even with a crop top it gets sore. So I asked the PS to take it out (my surgery/recon was last September). BCN had said it could be done on a local anaesthetic, but PS said no, there would be a lot of tugging, and a general would be better.
Didn’t really want a general - feels much more like having another operation, whereas I could kid myself having something done under local was like going to the dentist. Anyway, PS offered to reconstruct me a nipple, so as I am going under anyway, agreed to have this done at the same time.
Best wishes with your treatment

Hi all,
I had my ports removed (same time I had expanders removed and replaced with silicone implants). I had pain with the ports and like most of you especially if a crop top or bra pressed against them.
However, since they were removed im pain free. I was a little sore intially when they were removed but a month down the line I cant feel any soreness at all. Im definately better now theyve gone.

So glad to find this topic.
I had Ld recon 11th of may and port is causing me so much soreness.Boob looks really bruised too.
Don’t know whether i am being a wimp or not but worried me that it is so sore and makes it really difficult to bend down or sleep. Is this all normal and is it something i just have to put up with to enable them to do expansions before i have op to even up other side.
It feels like little fire crackers going off inside me really painful and sore.
