Hi
My mum received some results this week following her mastectomy - two small grade 3 tumours and 20 out of 23 nodes positive. She is now going to have a CT scan before she starts chemotherapy in a couple of weeks. I cannot help but feel so anxious that so many nodes are positive and does that mean the cancer has spread further? I would love to hear from some ladies with a similar diagnosis for some reassurance. Thank you x
Hi Janey
I am so sorry to hear about your mum but please try not to stress out to much about the amount of positive nodes that she had as not having any node involvement is not a guarantee that you wont go onto develop secondaries. I have read of many no none females that unfortunately have.
I was dx in April with Ductal bc and i went onto have lumpectomy and 18 nodes removed of which all were positive. I then had a mx and another 16 nodes removed of which 14 were positive and 2 were clear.
That is a total of 32 positive nodes yet bone and CT scans were clear. So i am very thankful the nodes caught the cancer. I went onto have chemo and rads which i finish this week.
I also have Herceptin 3 weekly and i take Benofos bone strengthening tablets in order to give myself the bext change of the cancer not returning.
I really thought my dx was a death sentance but now i know this illness is personal to all the individuals who have it and prognosis is more about how you respond to treatment than anything else.
I hope all goes well with your mums treatment
Thank you Patricia your story is very reassuring to hear. My mum has her scan next week, I find all the waiting such an anxious time I just want her to start treatment now! I can imagine it is a relief for you that you are now at the end of your treatment. Wishing you are the best and thank you again X
