Hi all,
I posted a few weeks back because of intermittent pain in my ribs especially on right side, feels like a deep stitch (had mx on left side - 13mm grade 2 lump, 4 affected nodes) her2 and oestrogen positive.
Saw oncologist yesterday and she was great, didnt feel like a hypochondriac at all! When she examined me I was very tender in the right upper abdomen just under the rib and also very tender on my chest behind my mastectomy scar.
I had a chest x-ray yesterday and bloods and am going for a liver ultrasound and a bone scan. I hadnt really thought it was about liver spread and wondered what the symptoms are of this if any. Also, why a liver ultrasound rather than a CT?
I have an appointment in 2 weeks at outpatients clinic so fortunately this is all going to be done very quickly but cant help feeling worried.
Anybody else had the same?

Hi Polly,
I can’t really help other than to say that there is a section on the symptoms in the MacMillan website. (macmillan.org.uk/Cancerinformation/Cancertypes/Liversecondary/Symptomsdiagnosis/Symptoms.aspx)
Just giving you a bump up until someone comes along who can help. Good luck with the tests.

Hi Pollym. I’ve got a similar thing to you. I’ve got BC right side and awaiting Mx on 1st June. I’ve had 3Fec and 4Tax. I’ve had a soreness in my ribs on the right side for a couple of weeks. Mentioned it to my BCN but she just said to mention it to preassessment doc. He gave me a form for x ray but I don’t think it will show anything. Wd have liked CT scan really. Have convinced myself that it’s spread though I had no node involvement.
Hope u get your results soon and it’s ok.

Looks like I’m in the same boat!
I was diagnosed Aug 2009 DCIS, lump removal, one lymph node involved so 3FEC 3TAX +rads. I had a blood test 10 days ago and it showed that I had a high alkaline phosphotase reading. I went for a ultrasound on Tuesday and it showed a patch on my liver that they are not happy with. I’m now waiting for a CT sacn and I’m petrified! I’ve convinced myself I’m dying and have started clearing out my house. Am I being irrational?
Good luck girls!

Hi ladies
just wanted to wish you all good luck with your various scans + tests

Thanks Tina, Have got bone scan and liver ultrasound on Tuesday and then results on Friday which is great as not so long to wait now. I am in denial really, trying not to think about it at all!

Hi Mags,
Im so sorry to hear that you are having to go for another test, hopefully everything will be okay. I am in denial at present and just remembering the other couple of scans I’ve had in the past which turned out to be normal! Did you have any idea there might be a problem or is this just out of the blue? It must be a terrible shock if so. Keeping my fingers crossed for you, I find out my results on Friday 3rd so not too long to wait.
Take care

Hi Polly,
So sorry to hear that you are also worried. If your x-ray is normal and you are still in pain and are concerned then I would hope your onc (at least if theyre as good as mine!) to send you for another test to be sure. Before I had my mx I had a bone scan and liver/lung scan but I think this was standard practice at my hosp as I had lymph node involvement.
Hoping everything is okay,
Take care

Hi all,
Went for the liver ultrasound and bone scan yesterday. Very good news re the bone scan as the woman scanning me told it was clear! I didnt think they were supposed to tell you but she said nothing to worry about, it all looked great! So, pains I have been having in ribs and chest bone nothing to worry about… more after effects probably of radiotherapy, although I am now almost 4 years down the line!
Just the results of the liver ultrasound now on Friday although I am less worried about this one.
Hope anyone who is waiting for test results get good news too.

Glad to know that good news is emerging - nearly the end of the wait for results so fingers crossed for you

Hi all,
More good news for me, just posting this so that everyone knows that sometimes you can have all kinds of pains and niggles and it is just normal.
I had most of my internal organs ultrasounded and all were normal. I am still having pains under ribs etc. but these are apparently nothing sinister. On my left mx side they are probably the result of radiotherapy even though I had this several years ago.
I really hope all of you get good results too.

Polly - great news - hope you are relaxing and celebrating.
It helps me to keep positive hearing your news
