I have had breast cancer in 2013 and again this year when I had a mastectomy in January
Over the last 2 or 3 weeks my mastectomy side of my chest has become red all over, almost like a port wine stain and the whole area is swollen and it’s spreading
I saw my surgeon last week ( by chance as it was my 6 month appointment) and he has ordered an ultrasound and biopsy possibly drainage as I have had seromas
I am so worried now that I have inflammatory breast cancer
The waiting is horrible yet again
Im going to ring the clinic tomorrow to try hurry things along
Anyway i just wanted to share with people who will understand
Thanks Sue x
Hi Sue,
So sorry you are going through this again after 11 years. Its a sobering thought that once its happened there’s always a risk of recurance, even so long after. I hope you are proved wrong in your suspicions. I hope you have lots of support around you too.
I think the only way I could funtion until the results are known would be to block it out somehow, but we all deal with things differently.
Dear Sue,
What a worrying time for you, Pleased to hear you are going to call your team tomorrow let hope you get an appointment very soon.
I did have an infection, which was very red and itchy, was admitted to hospital for a few days for IV drip this did clear the problem.
Wishing you well fingers crossed for a good outcome.
Hugs Tili
Thanks for your reply Entropy
I’ve had a call and have an appointment for an ultrasound on Wednesday so will let you know how it goes x
Thank you Till for your kind words
I have an appointment for an ultrasound on Wednesday afternoon so will update you
Thanks Sue
Hi Sue,
Really sorry that you are going through this worry. Like you, I developed a rash on my breast after chemo, a lumpectomy and radiotherapy - I really panicked and my surgeon didn’t know what it was. Therefore I had a larger biopsy on it. It definitely wasn’t IBC fortunately. After being referred to a consultant dermatologist who also didn’t know what it was, I had a biopsy with that department . The result was a condition called Granuloma Annulare. They think it was caused by the radiotherapy. The dermatologist actually wrote a paper on it and was invited to talk on it in the States at a dermatological conference !!! It was considered so rare to have a condition mimicking IBC.
Sorry to be so long winded but thought this might be also something to be looked into and obviously the way better of the two options ! But you have done the right thing to check it out first of course! Fingers crossed for you and all the best

Thanks Bethan for your kind message x
Thank you Bethan, Tili and Entropy for being so kind in giving me such comfort following the swelling and redness of my mastectomy scar
Ive seen the consultant and referred to scan which shows a collection of blood under the scar
The blood was so thick the radiographer was unable to extract it with a needle so Im going to have it extracted next week
Best wishes Sue x
Hi Sue,
You must be so relieved ! Best of luck for the procedure next week xx
Dear Sue123,
So pleased you have managed to get a good result, wishing you lots of luck for next week with happiness ahead.
Biggest hugs brave lady Tili
Glad its nothing sinister and can be dealt with relatively easily. Hope it goes well x
