Post Mastectomy and LD reconstruction rash/itching

Hi all,

I’ve recently started on my second BC diagnosis in 2 years. This time I’ve started with a mastectomy and LD reconstruction- chemo and herceptin to follow. I’m just over 2 weeks post surgery and things had been improving well but a few days ago I started to get intense itching under my reconstructed Breast and around the scarring under the armpit. It’s got worse over the last few days and I’ve now developed a horrible rash in both places which seems to be spreading. My BC nurse and surgeon saw it yesterday and weren’t concerned but it’s causing me absolute agony and it makes me want to rip my skin off! I barely slept at all last night as it’s so bad. They told me to just use something like E45 cream which doesn’t touch the sides. I’ve put some cocoa butter on today which has soothed it slightly but I wondered if anyone else experienced something similar and if so what helped!? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Rebecca

Really feel for you redcrab91. I had a really angry rash develop over my reconstruction and into the armpit, my Oncology team prescribed a steroid cream and Loratadine which did the trick withing 4 days - E45 didn’t touch it. I also changed everything to umperfumed (washing powder etc) and its not returned,

May be worth a call to your breast care team again if its really angry.

Thanks for you reply- really appreciate it. It’s nice to know it’s normal, well not nice but you know! I’ve been using aloe Vera gel and antihistamines which have been helping but if it doesn’t get better/change il get back in touch with my Breast care nurse. Thank you again! X
