I had my second mastectomy and node removal on Tuesday 17th September and I know its only a week ago but I am very sore. I can’t remember how I felt after my first mastectomy but this one I don’t have a drain and have a seroma which has been drained twice already. I think having it drained makes it sore as the needle moves inside which really hurts. Have to have it drained again Thursday and think this will go on for a while yet. Has anyone got any advice for the soreness across the chest and under the arm. I feel better not wearing a bra and I am taking it easy with the exercises as they make it worse. Not sure if I need chemo until I get the results in 2 weeks.
Dear bongo-monty.
So sorry to read you are in such discomfort, sermons and draining aren’t much fun, I would stop anything that is giving you more pain until you speak or see your breast cancer team. If you’re red and sore this could be an infection, please get checked out as soon as you can.
Wishing you well going forward, fingers crossed for a good outcome. Please let us know how you’re getting on.
Happiness going forward
with love Tili
Hi
Snap! I had my skin saving mastectomy on 17 th so 1 week today. I have a drain insitu , which is still draining @60mls / day. Due to see Surgeon on Thursday for drain removal and dressing removed. First day post op I only needed paracetamol AM & PM and felt ok but today , day 7, I have felt really tired and not much energy and not feeling 100%. I don’t have a temp or sign of infection but the area feels hot and swollen. I speak daily to breast nurse, who has reassured me that this is normal. I had hoped I would be feeling stronger by now especially as I felt better a few days ago!
I can’t offer any advice other than listen to your body and rest as much as you need to , eat well and drink plenty of fluids and take pain relief when needed. Hope all goes well for you and we both make a speedy recovery. Xx
