Hi,
I am 47. Before chemo I was probably perimenopausal with fairly sporadic periods several months apart. I had chemo from late August to December last year. My last period was May 2024.
Prior to starting tamoxifen, my oncologist did a blood test for my hormone levels. The results said I was post menopausal.
Could these hormone levels still rise and return to premenopausal levels? It is only about 11 weeks since chemo ended. They now want me to have an AI instead of tamoxifen.
Can going through the menopause be that quick and easy? Can the oestrogen levels reverse?
Thank you
Be glad you’ve found it easy. Perimenopause can be a bitch - more frequent heavier periods in my case. In no way would I class it as easy, so you’ve been lucky.
AI’s are more effective than tamoxifen, so if you are post-menopausal, its better to be on them.

@entropy Well i am certainly glad that it wasnt too bad. I am getting hot flushes frequently but all the other symptoms are manageable. I’m just confused as I was told that the menopause takes years and also that the hormone levels could still rise again and my periods restart. Do you know if that can happen? Thanks x
Perimenopause takes years, but you were already in that when having sporadic periods that were months apart. The definition of menopause is 12 months since your last period. Chemo and tamoxifen etc might have got you there quicker.
