Post Op hints

Hi everyone,

I’m just back from hospital and feeling alone. My OH is here but poor thing is exhausted after one day of running round after me so I’ve left him to have a lie-in.

I had a bilateral mast and immediate recon with expander implants and was in hospital for 6 days. For reasons the surgeon has never fully explained he fully expanded both implants (400ml) straightaway. The pressure is so intense I cannot take a deep breath and walking across the room leaves me light headed and shaking. I have 30 stairs to climb to access my flat so once I was in I had no intention of going out again. The front door is the only one entrance to the flat and is far to heavy for me to open. It’s all making me feel frightened to be alone.

I mentioned all this before discharge and was fobbed off and shuffled out the door.
I’m exercising (warm up and basic from the cancercare poster) but don’t know what to do to help ease the chest tightness.

Any hints to make this next week more bearable ?

Thanks as always

forgot to say - I’m using internet shopping for groceries and lemon and ginger tea to try to ease the queasiness that has plagued me all week.

I had a LD recon so didn’t have the same probelm as you but do have very bad chest tightness at the minute as I am having chemo. It is fluid build up with me and goes after about a week. It my also be due to fluid with you. I would ring your breast care nurse and ask advice - don’t just put up with it -make a noise as I am sure you will be able to get help or at least reassurance.
