Post op results worse than expected

Hi all,

Got my results yesterday after surgery and so much worse than expected even surgeon was shocked. Had surgery 19/01 for 18mm ductal carcinoma I opted for therapeutic mammoplasty due to location of lump and they was taking 3 lymph nodes for biopsy, diagnosed as er and pr positive her2 negative stage 1 grade 1, so I was extremely positive considering stage etc..Yesterday I was told the lump removed was in fact 70mm plus lobular disease was also found within breast tissue and one lymph node affected also unfortunately not enough clearance on one side so further surgery will be needed. MRI and CT scan ordered to determine if any spread before deciding on extra margin removal or if mastectomy is needed. I expected to go back to work after a week’s radiation which is what I was initially told, now I have no idea with the new diagnosis it’s such a shock and worry especially when I don’t get sick pay even though I have worked for the same company for 11 years. Anyone else been diagnosed with both ductal and lobular? Thanks for reading I know I can waffle on

You should be eligible for statutory sick pay. Do you belong to a union? If so check out with them, if not get an appointment with citizens advice and they should be able to advise you of your rights.

Hi @click44 just wanted to send a virtual hug, this must feel like a lot to take in especially as it’s so different from what you were expecting. I hope your team are looking after you and are supporting you. Fingers crossed for your upcoming scans. I had 3 lymph nodes affected and remember thinking the cancer must be everywhere, but as my MacMillan nurse said to me- don’t start going down avenues yet when we don’t know which one we need to take. If you’re in the UK, you can try reaching out to maggies or MacMillan, they have financial advisors you can speak to you if you need any help while you’re off work x
