Post surgery itch

8 days ago I had a second op as first wife local excision ( 5 weeks ago ) didn’t give clear margins

The itchiness to the healing wound is driving my crazy … please can anyone help .. any advice is welcome

I have tried cooling it with an ice pack which works but I know this isn’t good for a healing wound

No advise sorry but I had it too. Its like raw intense itch inside . Believe its the healing process I still get odd one now and my reincision was August. Had radiotherapy last month. :two_hearts:

Thanks for posting.

We often hear from people who experience an itching sensation in their wound following breast surgery. Itching is a common reaction and as @circleoflife suggests happens as the skin and tissues begin to heal.

As the itching you describe is driving you crazy, we would always suggest you contact your breast care nurse or treatment as they are best placed to assess your symptoms and make sure there is no other underlying cause for the itching. They may also be able to prescribe additional medication to help with your symptoms in addition to gently cooling the area which can be helpful to soothe the irritation.

We offer a range of free supportive services which you may be interested in. They include face to face and online courses and events.
