Hi folks, first of all thanks to those of you who share their experiences on this forum - it has been an invaluable source of advice as well as making me feel I’m not alone navigating this shit…
Early this morning I had my first surgery and all went to plan. I’ve just been discharged which is great, but I’ve been sent home attached to a pressure pump which I’ll wear for a week. It vibrated loudly every 20 seconds in the car on the way home - it wasn’t as noticeable in the hospital with all the other alarms/noises. I’m not complaining about the pump, I understand why I have it and it does seem such a trivial moan with everything else at the moment so wearing it isn’t a problem. I just wondered if any of you have any advice on how to live with the noise/vibration - especially while sleeping?
My fingers and toes are crossed that the gaps in between it activating/vibrating will increase as I start to recover.

Is it a PICO? Mine only vibrated occasionally, few times a day. Is the green ok light on? If it is a Pico maybe phone and check. Or were you shown how to detach the unit for a shower and reattach it? Maybe try that and see if things change?

Thanks for the reply. Yes it is PICO. To be fair, it’s calmed down significantly since I arrived home so maybe it was due to the surgery only being earlier today. Hearing that I may reach a point where it’s only a few times a day makes me feel much better!
The surgeon said that some patients clip it on to their bras to try and forget it’s there. Now I can see when that would be realistic… one day at a time is the takeaway!

I found it easiest to wear trousers and put it in the pocket. Sometimes I clipped it onto the waistband of my skirt. Never thought about clipping it to my bra but I think I would have been too wary. Good luck with the recovery, rest lots, I’m six weeks on and still get tired. X

Its a pico vac dressing. They are quite good at encouraging healing. Initially they might vibrate a bit, but once the required negative pressure is obtained, it should be very occasional. If it keeps frequently happening, there might be a leak - a perfect seal is needed to maintain the vacuum. If the green light is intermittently flashing, it should be working ok. You may notice it vibrate more after moving around a bit as it tries to maintan the vacuum, and your anatomy alters. At nighttime it will probably do it a whole lot less as you are not moving around much.
