Hello
I completed all my bc treatments in December and am now feeling much better, though still with fatigue, hot flushes and an uncomfortable shoulder from surgery but definitley stacks better than before Xmas. I’ve just returned from a disappointing spa day because the major hotel chain have a health policy (not advertised on their website) which says no treatments apart from a nail shape and polish for 5 years after a cancer diagnosis! I feel this is rather extreme as I would have been happy to sign a disclaimer for a facial - its not like I wanted an arm massage or anything! So this is just a warning to anyone who feels they deserve a pampering day that you need to check out the health restriction policy before booking.
Goodness - bit extreme, not even a facial for 5 years! Can understand avoiding saunas and any chemicals in water etc for awhile but that’s crazy…
Thanks for flagging

Hi Forties,
I had the same experience when I enquired about treatments at a top end Spa hotel. It was twelve months after I had finished radiotherapy. Their health policy was to give no treatments to ‘post cancer’ clients until 3 years after a cancer diagnosis (except for manicures/pedicures).
Even though it seemed overly cautious at the time and I was disappointed, I could understand why they imposed the restrictions. It was simply to protect themselves against any potential claims of negligence should the ‘unthinkable’ recur.
Unfortunately, we now live in a society which promotes, ‘where there is blame, there is a claim!’, and companies will do anything to guard themselves against this even if it sometimes seems extreme.
I went to a spa with a friend 4 days prior to my WLE & SN removal op & was advised their policy was they do not give massages until people were 3 years finished with cancer treatments. I was allowed to have a facial & foot softening treatment. The day was suppose to have been a normal nice day before treatment began.
Hi all
You may find some of the information in this booklet helpful regarding complementary therapies, it also contains details of registered practitioners :

Ah, thanks v much for pointing this out. Very disappointed, but no energy to fight against it. Will save my money! I’ll go locally to get facials etc.
Hi.
I am off to Center Parcs in 2 weeks time and was looking at their treatments. They too say no spa treatments following cancer diagnosis but at least they tell you on the web site. I can’t remember if it was for 2 or 3 years so I have justed booked in for a manicure and pedicure. Not sure what they will be able to do with my nails though as they are in quite a state following the chemo and on going effects of Anastrozole, lol.
