Hi all. I am due to have a wide local excision in 3 weeks time. I have heard a lot about post-op exercise but I want to be as fit as I can before as well. I have been doing lots of walking everyday since diagnosis 3 weeks ago (I did when I could before but doing it religiously now!). Are there any specific arm, shoulder, core exercises or stretches that will help? Thanks
Have a look on the main Breast Cancer Now website for the post-surgery exercises/stretches leaflet. There might also be some videos with some suggestions.

Yoga is great and also relaxing but if you want to try it and have never done it before take it very gently and be wary of postures that put a lot of weight on your shoulders and arms. Actually I’d advise taking anything new gently as going into treatment with a new injury isn’t fun - I have first hand experience of that though it was caused by a trip / fall not exercise.
The exception would probably be the post - operative breast exercises as previously mentioned . If you know how well you can do these now it will give you a goal to work towards afterwards.
