Pregnancy after hormone related breast cancer

Hi all

I was 22 when I was diagnosed with breast cancer, was grade 3 aggressive, but hadn’t spread to my lymphs. I had a lumpectomy, 6x FEC chemo and 3 1/2 weeks of radio, I was then put on tamoxifen. Tamoxifen was awful for me I got every single side affect going so in July this year I decided to have 6 months break. Also in June this year I had to see a gynaecologist as my periods were irregular and I was having pain etc he concluded that my ovaries were not working due to all my treatment and my body wasn’t able to release eggs! So in October this year when my period was late and my breasts started hurting I firstly panicked that the cancer was back until I did a pregnancy test and it was positive! I couldn’t believe it! My partner and I want the baby so booked a midwife appt who was useless so they referred us to a specialist who is now saying they are worried about all of the hormones etc. And that I might have to have the baby at 33 weeks by c section etc. I just wanted some advice on if any one else became pregnant after taking tamoxifen and how long they were on it for and if they gave birth early etc? Just worrying because as again I feel I am having no control over this :frowning: any advice would be great thanks

Hi delley,

I am 27. I was diagnosed last march with idc grade 3 but early and no spread to lymph nodes. I had 6 EC and 2 weeks radio. I’m also on tam and have been since October. There’s a strong possibility I am pregnant so just waiting to find out At the moment. Just thought I’d tell you I’m understanding you right now. It’s a scary place to be, but exciting at the same time. Lots of emotions running wild.
I hope you get some answers, there’s hardly anything on the internet to help.
Would be very interested to hear how you are getting on.

Esther xx

First of all-congratulations. Very exciting news.

Just letting you know my sister had BC at 33 years old. It was aggressive and had spread to the nodes. She had chemo, rads, surgery and tamoxifen for 2 years. She became pregnant a few years after finishing Tamoxifen and had a healthy full term baby, normal delivery. 14 years later she had DCIS for which she had a mastectomy-but no invasive cancer found!

Just found this very positive story:
