Pregnancy/Radiotherapy

Pregnancy/Radiotherapy Hello,
Just started the year with some good news which is a good start considering the news we were told in 2006.I have just found out I am 8 weeks pregnant. My Mother-in-law is due to start chemotherapy & radiotherapy for secondary breast cancer in her liver and breast bone, will that put my pregnancy at risk by being around her? I really hope not, but obviously I have the baby’s health to consider also.

Many Thanks,
Anita x

Its wonderful news that you are having a baby - congratulations.
I can understand your concerns. but please be assured that no part of your mother in laws treatment will in any way jeopardise the health of either you or your baby.
I am sure that BCC will give you detailed advice on exacrly what is entailed in both chemo and radiotherapy, but in the meantime, all I would say is that your MIL will need all your support and help during the next few months.
She will, I am sure be as thrilled as you at the thought of a new baby, and it will give her strength and hope through what will be for her a very tough time.
Kind Regards
SOFTUSA

Bone Scan Thank-you SOFTUSA for your advice, she also has a bone scan on Thursday and has read a leaflet to say that small children should be kept away, I have a 16 month old (her 1st grand-child), she has a 2nd due end of Jan, and is yet to know that there is a 3rd now expected this year, do you think I need to stay away for at least 24 hours after her scan? I want to be with my MIL every step of the way and obviously not keep my distance, but as you can appreciate this is all new to me and I have a baby and one on the way to consider.
Yes, she will be thrilled when we decide to tell her, and I hope that it makes her that more determined than she already is to take on this nasty, horrible disease AGAIN!!!
Thanks again,
Anita xx

Hi Anita Unfortunately, if she is supposed to stay away from small children she is undoubtedly too radioactive to be near a pregnant woman. I know I had this problem when I had another type of scan. Got me out of having to do the NCT sale, though. I am sure that your mother-in-law will understand.
