Just had a phone call from my pharmacist to tell me they cannot get any Letrozole and that there is a National shortage currently. The BCN team have kindly responded to my query and said they are not aware of any National shortage. I am in Derbyshire (UK). I have not requested a specific brand, just any Letrozole. Anyone else experiencing problems?
I get a 12 weeks prescription each time and picked my recent one up last week. My prescription specifies Accord which I always seem to be able to get and I am in West London. It must be quite worrying for you if you are running out. Anastrozole does the exact same thing as Letrozole, maybe your prescription can be swapped this time?
@Linda_D73 when I picked up my last prescription which was about 3 weeks ago the pharmacist did say that it’s very difficult to get letrozole at the moment. In fact she could only give me 25 tablets in the one box (I have 2 months worth each time). I am starting my 2nd full box in a couple of days so I think I will request it early. I am in the West Midlands.
Yes, first time in two years. Pharmacist unable to obtain it. I waited three weeks and managed to collect just yesterday. I luckily was able to use a ‘spare’ supply I had from when I had surgery/treatment when I had to take a break from them. So yesterday (16th) I collected. Guess they must be filtering through to supply now…. good luck.
I had the same issue a few years ago. I rang the manufacturer for Accord which was the brand I was taking at the time, who assured me there was no supply problem as far as they were concerned and more to do with the supplier used by your chosen chemist ie third party. You might want to check with Accord directly. Just my experience.
I live in south Warwickshire and also been prescribed Accord specifically, as other brands of Letrozole have caused me difficulties but this month I had to accept a different brand and the pharmacist at Boots advised me that they were also having issues with supplies. So it’s looking as if it could be a national problem not a regional one, which is a bit worrying.
I had problems last week, my usual chemist couldn’t get hold of them. I rang boots they were also in short supply. Managed to get them from another chemist.
Hi
I had no problem getting accord letrozole and when I asked in boots they said the stocks were fine as I was wondering if I should order next months now.
I’m in Hampshire
Xx
So I requested my script early. I went to collect it on Wednesday. No letrozole. The pharmacist rang up their supplier whilst I waited. Cannot get hold of any , except a brand called Femara. I rang my gp in order to get the prescription changed. Apparently Femara costs nearly £100 more than many other brands and as this is the NHS the cost has to be taken into account. Fortunately the surgery found another pharmacy in my area who could supply my usual brand. It may be that boots who have greater buying power than independent chemists , hence the problem I am having.
Hi. I live in Alexandria, Scotland and have just been given two weeks supply instead of two months as there also appears to be a shortage in supply here too.
