Hi all. I had an early bc diagnosis last September, followed by a lumpectomy, 4 nodes removed and RT. I have been on tamoxifen almost a year. Annoyingly I have always had troublesome periods and have suspected endometriosis. I was on the pill for a few years before kids and then had the coil fitted after my last pregnancy in 2017. As my cancer was ER and PR +, no more artificial hormones permitted but I am still having heavy and long periods. They go on for 12 to 14 days (admittedly only heavy at the start) with about a 14 day break before the process starts again. I am fed up! I have a consultation with a gynae consultant this week having been scanned and checked earlier in the year. Anyone got any advice/suggestions? Xx
Hi, I was very similar to you. My periods were a nightmare. After scans etc I wanted a hysterectomy, but my wonderful surgeon said the best thing would be a endometrial ablation, which she did and sterilised me at the same time. It was day surgery and quick recovery. I have not had a period since and my only regret is not having it sooner. Definitely worth chatting to your gynae about. Best wishes.
Thank you. That is very helpful.
Hey @blue80 I was also diagnosed with ER/PR+ early BC. Before this I was diagnosed with endometriosis. I was very nervous about trying tamoxifen as it can make endometriosis worse/more painful. I asked my oncologist to have an aromatase inhibitor instead, because I am pre-menopausal I have Zoladex injections aswell (these are actually used as an endometriosis treatment). A silver lining to this whole experience is that I don’t have periods and my endometriosis symptoms have improved so much. Sending you strength x
